It is one of the best. It's well contained and the hero is not only flawed in his relationship with his wife. But he is perceived as very mortal. This adds tension to every action and raises the stakes. We cringe with him and know only as much as he does.

Fury Road is just so much better than all of the original trilogy that it's barely even worth comparing them. Road Warrior is completely fine but its action setpieces are the best thing about it, most of the character interactions range from boring and bland to saccharine, sentimental bullshit. Fury Road cuts out all that extraneous stuff and takes the pretty good ending chase in Road Warrior, makes it much, much better and extends it to the length of the film. Fury Road is extraordinarily beautiful to look at whereas RW's gritty look just doesn't awe the eye at all.
