What does /tv/ think of Woody Allen?
>>62734992
Love his movies but don't tell people I do or talk about it because it's uncool to like them.
>>62734992
This is one my favorite sequences in the history of cinema.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuJQ4gtedeM
Please, watch the whole thing.
>>62734992
I like his movies. Especially the early funny ones.
Movies for bourgeois betas. In fact if you want to blame the "pussification of the western male" on anyone in particular -- it's Woody Allen.
He glorifies neuroticism, self pity, pretension.
Fuck him. Fuck his naval gazing films.

>Stardust Memories reference
Goddamn is middle period Allen fantastic.
>>62735038
I agree about that scene. I haven't seen the movie since it came out, but that scene (and the poem!) has stuck with me.
>>62735071
lmao
I like Sleeper and Deconstructing Harry.
>You will never beat a man half to death with a celery stick.
>You will never cheat on your wife with her sister in front of their blind grandmother.

>>Stardust Memories reference
Indeed. I salute you friend!
One of my favorite Allen movies.
From what I've seen, he's great. I haven't really watched post-2000 movies of his, however.

>I haven't really watched post-2000
I've seen a couple, and they've been terrible, save for Midnight In Paris.
One of the greatest American filmmakers of this half century, responsible for so many amazing, varied, films.
>>62735246
Match Point is great too
>>62735071
THIS
the only people who like him are normies and pedofags
>>62735246
Blue Jasmine is also great, his best drama in a long time. Blanchett's performance alone is god tier.
I want to see more of his stuff, but I can't find Bullets Over Broadway or Broadway Danny Rose anywhere.
Actually I think his written comedy is funnier than his movies. He's a better comedy writer than anything. I was surprised by this fact.
>>62735382
>I can't find Bullets Over Broadway or Broadway Danny Rose anywhere.
Broadway Danny Rose is on Hulu. I'm a huge fan, but I didnt love Bullets when I saw it a few years ago, maybe i'll give it another shot at some point.
>>62735401
yep, his books, his work for the new yorker, his old stand up albums are hilarious too, they're on spotify.
>>62735425
Thanks. I've been thinking about trying Hulu anyway.

Their Woody selection is close to nonexistent but it's worth it otherwise for current and older shows and the criterion. If you're looking to see more Woody make sure you see Hannah and Her Sisters, it's one of his very best, nice mix of all his styles.
Match Point and Crimes and Misdemeanors are contenders for the best Woody's ever done. They're just so beautifully tragic.
Of course, Manhattan and Annie Hall on beauty alone, and so on. He's hit or miss, but even the misses are fun.
>>62735505
I've seen that one. I need to see the two I mentioned, plus Stardust Memories, Husbands and Wives, and most of his early, funny ones. I've seen Sleeper and Love and Death, but I need to get the other ones.
Greatest Woody Allen film coming through.

Proof that w/ connections you can get away with buggering children.

He's great, but I'm not really fond of him as an actor.
>>62735038
God damn I want to live in pre-90's New York City.
He's great.
A few fucked children aren't that big of a price to pay for so many masterpieces.
How was Irrational Man?
>>62737430
>I want to live in one of the most crime riddled cities in American history
Wut? pre-1990s New York had a lot more in common with Death Wish than it did with Woody Allen movies, the whole reason it features so heavily in pop-culture is because the rent was so cheap that even the poorest of artists and bohemians could afford to live there
I don't like to admit it, but I actually prefer Stardust Memories to 8 and 1/2
>>62734992
He's a good filmmaker. Except his films are always hit and miss.
I think he's an outstanding director and I admire the fact that he's still making movies and that he does it as often as he does.
>>62734992
>New York yuppie whining about aging and death and loneliness, obsessed with his own artistic credibility or lack thereof
Why do people pretend that predictable, boring shit is good?
>>62735356
fucking loved this movie
>>62737816
They're not really comparable even though Stardust being partially a parody of 8 1/2.
I don't like his early slapstick stuff
>>62739852
Even they were smart.

Clever dialogs.
Great performances.
Simple stories about imperfect humans.
>>62735038
i dont get this scene.
my nigga trynna get it in?
>>62739863
>subjectivity is objective
What does this mean?
>perception is irrational, it implies imminence
What does this mean?
>that clusterfuck of a reply Diane Keaton gives Woody
What does this mean?
>>62734992
A dude who does this for the sales of good laugh is the god !!!

Sounds like somebody forgot his mantra.
>>62742191
That poor kangaroo
any allen infographic?
Now for my Woody Allen impression: "I'm a neurotic nerd who likes to sleep with little girls."
>>62734992
any guy who can binge fuck and then marry his retarded step daughter and stay out of jail gets a tip of the hat from me
>>62737480
that sweet sweet retarded stepdaughter pussy
Crimes and Misdemeanors is the greatest Bergman film this side of Umberto D.
Allen gets a lot of flack for his personal life but I believe him to be one of America's greatest directors if not only for Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and her Sisters, and the aforementioned film above.
