If the federation is so great then why has there been no new Star Trek series on the air for the last ten years?

The fictional organisation, the United federation of planets, has little pull in the real world

One's coming soon, Dukat, lay off.

because the Tau'ri, for all their talk of peace and galactic unity, ended up as the dominant species with the means to dictate their policy across the galaxies as they see fit with not one, but TWO of the known universes super tech species leaving them their stuff

The format changed with 24. People aren't into slow to develop, quick to forget (in universe) plots. As in, the reset button almost every single ST episode came produced with.
Quick into action, easy with the explanations - is key nowadays. Like the ST reboots.
Besides, the ST message is no longer relevant. America is an empire now.

Are we allowed to blog episode reviews in this thread?

I know that Season 1 of TNG is considered practically non-canon by this point, but I have to talk about The Big Goodbye. This is actually not that bad of a holodeck malfunction episode, mainly because it was the first such episode. They explained somewhat plausibly that the Enterprise crew outside of the holodeck couldn't simply cut power to the simulation due to a risk of everyone inside getting wiped away along with the program. There was a good scene toward the end with Picard saying goodbye to one of the Holodeck creations.

On the negative side this episode was strong on the Federation-going-to-every-length-to-appease-foreign-cultures aspect. The Enterprise crew has to make an important diplomatic contact with the Jaradans. Picard had to learn to speak a few phrases in Jaradan (I don't know if they hadn't come up with the universal translator idea yet). So the Jaradans send out an unannounced probe to invasively scan the Enterprise (nice diplomatic gesture), which is the cause of the holodeck malfunction, which resulted in an Enterprise non-com crewman being shot in the chest by a 20th century earth gun; and the lives of three senior officers being placed at extreme risk while the holodeck was being fixed by Wesley Crusher. So what does Picard do when he gets released from the holodeck and goes to confront the Jaradans? He doesn't even bring it up and just proceeds to suck the proboscis of their shitty insect language, as though nothing happened.

Minor nit-picks:
>Data refers to automobiles as "an ancient earth device" even though the 20th century is only 300 years ago, and they use cars in the films if you consider those canon, and anyway how do you get around on planet surfaces to areas not served by super-trains or transporter hubs?
>Data doesn't understand the function of an electric wire even though his body contains fucking wires

The combinations of Voyager, Enterprise, and ST: Nemesis basically rendered the entire franchise radioactive.

After Enterprise, they killed the franchise so they could go back to the movie only format because it was (in theory) less work and more chance at making money. Also the reboot bug bit them as people felt that new characters were scary and after hitting rock bottom, they went for the long rejected reboot of the TOS as their last ditch effort to go the nostalgia route rather than pay people to make new characters and timeskip ahead another couple of decades ala TNG.

That said, the lack of new TV shows is due to Abrams being a cunt who wanted NO NO NO return of the original timeline and only wanting HIS reboot timeline be the only game in town. The owners of the franchise basically were wanting to hedge their bets/pander to both the reboot and old fans and JJ finally quit to do SW when he realize that no matter how hard he cried, the old timeline was going to come back in some shape, way, or form instead of staying dead and gone like he wanted.
