I've noticed a lot of current cast members always pick the shitty 'fan favourites' when asked what they're favourite monsters and stuff are.
For monsters, they always say the weeping angels or the silence.
For episodes, they always say blink, rose or day of the doctor. Never any classics.
I remember last year at the world tour they asked the favourite monster question to peter and jenna. jenna responded with, you guessed it, the silence and weeping angels. this was met with a roaring round of applause from the tumblrites in the audience.

Why do the writers try so hard to make the Doctor seem like the most clever person even if they have to make every other character a drooling retard in order to do it? Why can no one else ever come up with an answer to anything?
When the Doctor said, "I'm looking at footage of your helmet cams" and the asian woman said, "We don't have helmet cams," her follow-up question should have immediately been "Where is this footage from?" Even if you excuse that bit, how did neither she or Clara come up with the answer when the Doctor was actually showing them the footage and asking them leading questions to make them see?
The moment Clara stepped out of the pod and we saw from her POV I immediately realized the sleep pods were somehow recording a video feed directly from the brains of anyone who uses them, and it was solidified when the Doctor took the asian woman's helmet and we still saw from her POV. So how did the characters not come to the same conclusion the moment they saw POV footage with the knowledge that no one had a helmet cam?
All they needed to make the Doctor seem more clever than the others was to have him figure it out first. After that, it's unnecessary to write the characters as retards just so the Doctor is forced to spoonfeed them an answer anyone could have derived almost immediately.

Actually, in most cases since Moffat took over they actually make the Doctor actively avoid the overarching mystery like the plague until he slips and falls into the Finale Funnel which forces him to confront the mystery against his will at the last possible moment.

They didn't, but they also didn't make the Doctor a whiny coward who refuses to face any consequences of anything until absolutely forced to. And they didn't even really make it an "overarching mystery," it was always just a sort of background thing that was there and then they revealed what it meant in the finale. In Moffat's era they tend to present these great mysteries front and center and then just skirt around them until the finale, often by making the Doctor actively ignore/avoid/run from whatever it is.

I'd say this episode and farting aliens are around equal. It started from a good concept of condensing sleep, then fell apart completely, the monsters were stupid, how exactly did the Morpheus machine create them and make eye boogers sentient? The supporting characters were generic and shit, there was barely a plot.
