Also they employed other types of aliens (like the bountyhunters) who did not originate on Earth but where a slave race or something like that.

Season 8 set up what was supposed to be a soft reboot for season 9 where X-Files would essentially be a new show with Doggett and Reyes as the new "Mulder and Scully" and new writers and directors being brought in so the original crew could jump over to the Lone Gunmen spin off. Robert Patrick's career was still doing well at the time so he had to turn down a TON of roles to commit his next few years to X-Files so when FOX cancelled the show after season 9 he pretty much got fucked out of his prime career years.
I love Doggett, he's actually a more likable character than dickhead-era resurrected Mulder, but I don''t begrudge Patrick for not wanting to return after how he was treated.
