I like how most of the scenes seem to be shown like a play.
Arcillo, the main actor, is really good in this. It was nice to see other familiar actors, too. I was pretty surprised that this wasn't really bad and they did the history stuff well.
My only complaints are: There are certain scenes that might be a bit confusing to people who are not familiar with Philippine history. And there are some pacing issues. Also, a lot of people, after watching the movie, put Luna on a pedestal, when you have to understand that he was a madman---he did great things for the country at that time, but he was fucking crazy at times.
But overall, I really enjoyed this movie.
I hope the successes of Heneral Luna and pic related will push Philippine cinema to better heights.
Sadly, I think an AlDub film will be the first to be pushed out with how it's trending as fuck over here.

You have indies that cost 0-5 million and then you have capeshit and other tentpole blockbusters that cost at least 100 million, usually way more than that. During awards season there are couple of mid budget films that come out, and those only get made by really big actors committing to star in them and because the films are driven towards by big name producers (Harvey Jewstein for example).

It's a good film, sure, but it's not a fair portrayal of Antonio Luna. Can't really blame Tarog on that since his source material was biased as hell, and he did outright say that the film took liberties. It's still a good film, either way. I'd like to see how he'd handle del Pilar next, since there really isn't a lot of history on him besides his death.
If you liked this one, you should definitely look at Tarog's other work. Sana Dati is a must-watch. Jerrold Tarog is quickly becoming a strong force in modern Philippine cinema, somebody that you can confidently lump with the likes of Brillante Mendoza and Lav Diaz. Erik Matti (OTJ, Honor thy Father is also shaping up cool) is another good director.

That movie was interesting. But it's really for people who like romance movies. It has a lot of dialogue, like 90% of the movie is just them saying heartbreaking quotes. Not really my cup of tea but I still enjoyed the chemistry and charm of the two leads. Romance movie-loving people went crazy for it since a lot of the quotes were relatable.

I like arthouse cinema with muh depression, muh 3 hours, muh nothing happens, so I love Lav Diaz. I've only seen 2 but they're exactly what you'd expect. You need to be in the right headspace and it's okay to take breaks or split them up into parts. They're storytelling experiments, not entertainment.
