>implying there's a single person on this board who finished this episode without crying
>>
I wept uncontrollably.
>>
I wept but maintained tear discipline.
>>
I honestly can't remember that episode

I dropped the series at some point, there was episode with a shot of a minibus door sliding open that I started to watch twice, but I don't think I ever made it through that one

Remember that sub plot about Nate getting keked?
lmao

i didn't
emotional manipulation is the shittiest and cheapest trick to make people like your piece of shit tv show/movie/book etc
>>
>>62711276

That's just retarded. The reason it makes people sad is because it was well written and had developed characters. Not this "emotional manipulation" bs you're talking about.
>>
Big Sopranos fan here. Should I expect the same amount of quality?
>>
>>62711374
>cue sad music
>SO SAD!
>>
>>62711392

The autism is strong with this one.
>>
>>62711392
Are you autistic?
>>
>>62711389

They're very different. SFU has some more soap-opera type moments but overall it's very good and worth watching all the way through. SFU has more interesting themes going in it for sure.
>>
The show had it's ups and downs but in the end it left me very content and also more empty for a straight week. And there are still times where scenes from it will pop into my head out of nowhere.
>>
>>62711389
It's high points are higher than the Sopranos but it doesn't have the same level of consistent quality.
>>
I finished watching it 2 years ago, right around this time. I still think about the show a lot. It's sad that most people I know haven't heard of it. Maybe I'll re-watch it in a few years.
>>
Is it worth it to watch the whole series just for the ending? I've seen the first episode and thought it was just ok
>>
>>62712053
First episode isn't a good sampling of the series. It's really experimental, with all of those pauses for fake advertisements. You have to let the characters grow on you.
>>
>>62712087
They sure do fuckin grow on you too. Holy shit
>>
>>62712087
>with all of those pauses for fake advertisements
not sure if that's what you are referring to, but i can't stand when i watch a tv show on the internet and there are obvious breaks for where commercials would go

vikings was real bad at that
>>
>>62712053
Absolutely. I only began watching because I had heard the payoff from the series finale was so satisfying. It transcends tv, for real. It fundamentally changed me.

>that fucking feel when Nate smiles at Ruth
>>
>>62712289
The first episode of Six Feet Under literally had fake advertisements for fake products and services like an SNL episode.
>>
>>62711773
Not at all. The high points in Sopranos are unmatched in the whole televised medium.

>>62711389
I don't think Six Feet Under is in the same league. Sopranos made me feel sad, angry, depressed, perplexed, scared, melancholic, uncomfortable, curious, excited, bored, disturbed, stressed and a whole lot more. The way it captured human beings caught in their own little world, with all their platitudes and disregard for others was so uncomfortably close to the human condition. The show had the most unblinking focus on death, and how we're all caught up in the minutiae of everyday life while letting go of those truly fleeting moments. I expected something like this from Six Feet Under and was left ultimately disappointed. I felt like the show tackled its main themes in a rather gutless manner. The whole talking to dead people thing was so unsubtle. The characters were all annoyingly quirky and everything kept going downhill like it was some kind of torture-porn. The creator even talked about wanting to make it more fucked up. I kept watching for the supposedly masterful finale and all I got was some sentimental tripe that looked like a car commercial. Something like that could never compare to the formal daring of The Sopranos finale as far as I'm concerned. Maybe there required a certain connection to the characters to forgive how sappy it all looked.
>>
>>62710405
I started laughing because it was way over the top, show had some good episodes, but its fairly overrated overall.
>>
>>62712533
thank you. i think six feet under went downhill after season 2. the characters became parodies of themselves. federico fucks a hooker, what the fuck? claire becomes a lesbian because lel so quirky? ugh
>>
>>62710405

Did SFU make anybody else feel a little better about dying?
>>
>>62712533
Every so often I see posts like this in SFU threads, and I ain't even mad, I just feel sorry for you.
>>
>>62712533
>unsubtle devices
>talking to therapist to have a thinly disguised excuse to telegraph internal conflict to audience

Uh huh.
>>
>>62712639
>Federico's arc entirely revolves around his inferiority complex/ masculine insecurity
>Rico sleeps with hooker to salve feeling of rejection and recover manhood after wife loses interest in him
>takes her depression personally and struggles to cope with it, perceiving it as a threat to his masculinity and a slight against his imagined failures as a husband and father

>Claire, the emo/goth alternative outsider into art and music and personal expression, finds a muse in someone with a total lack of inhibition or shame
>wants to be like her, wants to be liked by her, admires and aspires to be like her, starts to experiment out of curiousity and a desire to be wild and free and uninhibited and most importantly interesting
>isn't actually a lesbian, just wishes she was because she wants to be hip

Consider this the emotional cliffnotes to SFU for autismals.
>>
I JUST WANNA CELEBRATE

YEAH YEAH
>>
>>62712957
P.S.
>Claire's desire for self-expression and freedom comes from her family background - the fishers were repressed, emotionally inhibited, conservative and surrounded by death, adolescent rebellion and the natural tendency for children to gravitate to what they lack leads Claire to her troubled lifestyle
>Rico's insecurity comes from his youth and the culture shock of having being raised in a traditional hispanic family with certain expectations of its men, then finding himself out of control after the death of his family and thrust into a position of early succession, which indirectly leads him to work for the fishers as restorative artist but not as owner of his own business and thus master of his own destiny, a situation that leaves him emasculated and feeling inadequate

You say something stupid, I'll prove it wrong. It'll be a fun game.
>>
>>62710405
Can't believe it, I just finished watching it anon.... I'm crying like a baby right now...
>>
>>62712533
I feel the other way around, watched SFU first and expected to be similarly moved by The Sopranos, that didn't happen.
SFU is miles ahead of Sopranos in terms of emotionality and the impact it had on me and my real life self and senses.
>>
>>62715501
Totally agree.
>>
this, ladies and gentlemen is the best show ever aired.
