Now that the dust has finally settled.
What does /tv/ think of The Seventh Seal?
>>62701795
The dust has not settled yet. Way too soon.
now that the dust has settled, what does /tv/ think about clapping some chalk erasers?

>implying anyone on /tv/ has scene this masterpiece
most /tv/ users will see the cape and think it's another superhero movie
>>62701888
When you think about it isn't Death the most OP superhero of all?
It was a super hero movie all along.
>>62701795
I would have preferred more scenes like the one where they kill that witch, it was really dark, or more of those where the blacksmith explains stuff about the plague, felt more mysterious and mad
>>62701795
Pretty pictures completely devoid of any substance.
>>62701920
if it where a superhero movie, is death the flawed hero or the kind evil genius?
I prefer Bergman's later stuff but it was good for it's time.

Why does everything need to fit neatly into your climate controlled character box senpai?
>>62701951
I think you're in the wrong thread
>>62702016
because it's the only way to start a film discussion on /tv/ ;___;
notice how many film threads have to start or force a meme just to get a response and get a discussion going

If I'm being totally honest: I watched the first half hour once and turned it off at the confessional scene. It wasn't bad at all, but I really wasn't in the mood for the God stuff. It just has no relevance to me at all, I find it hard to care about debates over God

Begotten is better in every way
It's great, one of Bergman's best, much funnier than I expected. Gets unfair flack because it's entry level Bergman and not the "le óbscúre fantástiqué" the cinema hipster crowd here walls themselves behind and because it's been parodied often as being this heavy, pretentious, humorless film which is what those that haven't seen anything by Bergman think of Bergman in general.

I can never understand when people come from this direction.
Do you only watch movies that deal with things that directly relate to you?
Black and white + bizarre costumes/imagery = patrician cinema
>>62701795
What did you think OP?
It's OK. I wasn't really enthralled with it.
>>62702205
It was a neat experience

ditto. This movie did very, very little to more. Liked wild strawberries more but Bergmann in general doesn't really entice me that much
>>62701795
Got way too bored to get past 15 minutes.
>>62702268I wouldn't call Wild Strawberries bad, it's a cute, comfy picture, but I was underwhelmed by it. Probably not his worst, but far from his best like some claim
>>62701951
It's funny cause you assume so much about foreign black and white films and expect it to be like a cryptic Kubrick arsty movie or something.
>>62702160
Not at all. I just have no real interest in religious debates. Spirituality is one thing and can be very powerful in films but once you get into debates about God's existence or the morality of God my patience gets really thin. Call me arrogant but I don't see how someone can raise such doubts about God intelligently and still think its something worth believing in. It's almost a non-issue: stop believing in God and you stop having this problem
Granted its been a couple years, if I watched it now I might feel differently
>>62702344Actually, you are right.
>>62702288
Classic joke is classic.

Its hard to just throw away a belief in something that you've beein instilled and brought up to believe as a kid, especially to a knight who was brought up christian his entire life and just fought a holy war.
If there was a movie where a christian saw some messed up shit and then just decided "huh I guess God is fake" without any inner resistance or turmoil it'd be pretty weak.
It was incredibly entertaining while also very thought-provoking and emotional. Plus it's hilarious.
why do we hurt the ones we love /tv/?

I totally get that, I just find it hard to be personally invested or take anything away from the wordy soliloquies about it
