The original Tron alluded to the computer function much better, particularly in imagery. Yes, the cloth fins on the helmets and stuff like that looked cheesy because they warped and crumpled, but not enough to kill what they got right. They didn't even try to get an electronic feel in the new one. It was just a Euro-future + Apple exterior sort of look in shallow respects.
It's fitting that an (in all probability) equally crappy flick would punt it because I can't imagine the third one being any better than the second based on the teases.
