After rewatching that season, Yup definitely deserved to win more. He played a better strategic game and used his idol perfectly.
Post-merge the Ozzy/Yul tribe was 4 vs 5. Even with the "God" idol, the other tribe could have taking out one of them if the 4 didn't know who would be voted for to give the idol to someone. Yul manipulated Penner perfectly
