No. The tone of the scene is about the good old days gone by. Remember the key phrase, "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age" which gives the universe an implied depth. It's as if Ben is commenting on something from several centuries ago, like a Napoleonic cavalry sabre or Tokugawa katana. Such a long lifespan would make sense given the technology of the universe (light speed, lasers) and the fact that he was a literal wizard.
Lucas was very hands off in the production of ESB, which is why it is the best SW film, and was willing to listen to a lot of constructive criticism from talented people during the production of ANH. It wasn't until Lucas regained total creative control of the Star Wars franchise in RotJ that the Vietnam themes (Lucas taught Naval Officers film classes to dodge the Vietnam draft), teddy bears (Lucas's wife divorced him and he got custody of the kids), and "all this happened a mere 30 years ago" (his underlings not having the courage to tell him his ideas suck) that the internal consistency of the Star Wars universe started circling the drain.

Ironically, some of the best written EU novels are set during the prequel era. Mostly since Lucas was willing to pay for semi-decent authors during his RotS marketing push, rather than the usual fan fiction writers.
Anyway, both of those books are great and worth reading. They don't fit into the Disney canon, but they are stand-alone and self-enclosed novels about Yoda and Mace. So one can read them and enjoy them on their own.
