Genisys is the ONLY terminator movie that tries to make sense of the rest. Everything through T4 was conceptual garbage given the time paradoxes that were obvious straight from the beginning.
With Genisys, we have the introduction of alternate timelines, merging timelines, and probably a few more paradoxes that I haven't attempted to understand completely. However, the story manages to explain away the most obvious ones from the previous movies so it gets high marks for that alone.
