Well I don't usually post anytime around the episode air dates, but from discussions I have with people on and off season it seems /who/ has a pretty good taste overall. Obviously everyone's taste differs, I'm speaking in very broad terms. I don't have the link anymore, but when /who/ rated all the episodes it fit my tastes almost exactly.

Now I'm curious, what's your take on MA/WF and ZI/ZI? Actually, what would you rate each episode this series out of 10?

Are you looking for this pic?

I wasn't a fan of the opening two-parter. Too much of the first episode was wasted in getting the characters together, and when they did finally get to Skaro I didn't enjoy the actual story at all, apart from a few great character moments. It's all been discussed to death, really.

I liked Invasion, apart from the church scene. It was a good, pretty tense build-up with a real feeling that the story was taking place all over the world.
Inversion wasn't as good. There were still some good bits, but I'm really not sure about the resolution. While it gave Capaldi a chance to show off his acting chops by delivering a fine monologue, the actual end of the rebellion was a bit shite. My main beef is that Bonnie was nothing but a paper-thin, generic extremist who just did a 180 degrees turn because the Doctor pointed out that what she was doing didn't make much sense, and in the end even went so far as becoming another Osgood peacekeeper. I could have accepted that if the story had kept on being about UNIT fighting a rebellion, but if the whole point of your story is a moral argument you need stronger characters than that and a resolution that isn't just "the Doctor does a speech and all the other characters realize how wrong they were".

My ratings so far:
Apprentice 3/10
Familiar 5/10
Lake 7/10
Flood 6.5/10
Girl 7.5/10
Woman 6/10
Invasion 8/10
Inversion 5/10

Is David Tennant popular with people who aren't die hard Doctor Who fans?

It seems like Matt Smith became a pop culture icon as much as Tom Baker did during his day.

Now whenever you see a guy in suspenders, a bowtie, a fez, and a tweed jacket you automatically think they are trying to imitate "The Doctor" much like you'd think if someone were wearing a scarf with a similar pattern and a hat.

>>62634625
I remember them not really capitalizing on the Silence during Smith's tenure so perhaps they could tie up loose ends with that one.

I loved the bits of narration that he did at the beginnning, middle and end of End of Time Part 1. They were suitably epic and Dalton has a great voice. Say what you will about the episode, he was GOAT.

>It is said that in the final days of planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams.
>To the west of the north of that world, the human race did gather, in the celebration of a pagan rite to banish the cold and the dark. Each and every one of those people had dreamt of the terrible things to come.
>But they forgot, because they must. They forgot their nightmares of fire and war and insanity.
>They forgot. Except for one.

>And so it came to pass that the players took their final places, making ready the events that were to come.
>The madman sat in his empire of dust and ashes, little knowing of the glory he would achieve.
>While his saviour looked upon the wilderness, in the hope of changing his inevitable fate.
>Far away, the idiots and fools dreamt of a shining new future. A future now doomed to never happen.
>As Earth rolled onwards into night, the people of that world did sleep, and shiver, somehow knowing that dawn would bring only one thing.
>The final day.

>And so it came to pass, on Christmas Day, that the human race did cease to exist.
>But even then, the Master had no concept of his greater role in events. For this was far more than humanity's end.
>This day was the day upon which the whole of creation would change forever. This was the day the Time Lords returned.
>For Gallifrey.
>For victory!
>For the end of time itself!
>>
>>62635560
no, Isaac is better than David Tennant.
>>
>>62635630
>The madman sat in his empire of dust and ashes, little knowing of the glory he would achieve.
>While his saviour looked upon the wilderness, in the hope of changing his inevitable fate.
>Far away, the idiots and fools dreamt of a shining new future. A future now doomed to never happen.

Reminder that this narration is ironic, and each is applied to its opposite. The Doctor is the madman, the Master is his savior, and the Time Lords are the idiots.
>>
>>62635560
Nah, it's some series set in America during the 1930s (?) Ridiculously good resemblance though.

I know we have a list of top tier episodes from NuWho, but do we have a list of avoid tier episodes that are just so bad that nobody would blame anyone for skipping over?
>>
muh oho
>What baffles me is that if Jenna Coleman can be this riveting to watch...why is she stuck playing the ceaselessly vanilla (if likeable) Clara?

>For the first time since her conception Kate Stewart is written as a person rather than a series of one liners. She's allowed to display genuine sentiment and not just sass. Is that because somebody else is writing for her aside from just Moffat? Very possibly.

>. A fresh and original approach that doesn't quite work is still a fresh and original approach. It could be tighter with stronger characterisation and stronger in it's sentiment but it is a stepping stone to a new type of new Doctor Who - one with a political agenda and driven by anger.

Does anybody think that NuWho at the moment has lost some of the sense of adventure that it used to have? Donna's was referenced starting in Runaway Bride, Doctor Donna was the arc for S4.

Rusty didn't care about Martha enough to make more of hers. So she's about even with Rory here, going by your silly criteria.

For RTD's companions the mystery is hinted at and then becomes relevant to the plot at the appropriate time.

For Moffat's companions solving the mystery is THE plot from Day One
>>
>>62638464
So?
>>
>>62638461
we should switch to EastEnders tbqh
>>
>>62638464
It's just a different approach to an arc. Moffat's are more actual arc-style storytelling. RTD's are simple hints that appear throughout the series. Bad Wolf was the entire S1 arc, and actually RTD had no idea what Bad Wolf was going to be until he wrote the finale, so he couldn't do more than hint anyway. But when you watch it back now you know it's Rose = Bad Wolf.

And it makes no difference to how special they are which RTD is just as guilty of making his companions, which is what you were complaining about in the first place. When Moffat solves his arcs the companions stick around after and it hardly gets referenced or has an effect on things. RTD mostly used it as a way to write them out, give them a whizz bang finale.

>Is David Tennant popular with people who aren't die hard Doctor Who fans?
No, and neither is Matt Smith.

>It seems like Matt Smith became a pop culture icon as much as Tom Baker did during his day.
Moffat is very good at making things marketable. Catchphrases and dress quirks are a goldmine.

>Now whenever you see a guy in suspenders, a bowtie, a fez, and a tweed jacket you automatically think they are trying to imitate "The Doctor" much like you'd think if someone were wearing a scarf with a similar pattern and a hat.
The difference being the long scarf was exclusive to Doctor Who. Matt Smith adapted an already popular fashion style from fucking hipsters. Most of those people aren't trying to mimic the Doctor. The ones that do probable do it because everything they need is easily accessible for them or they probably already have some things.

Basically, Matt Smith was a very marketable Doctor, but David Tennant is by far the most popular NuWho Doctor. Sad but true, here's hoping Capaldi dethrones him.

Moffat has realized the only way to boost ratings is to literally include Tennant in almost every episode someway, leading to having Tennant in the series semi-regularly
>>
From someone else who read the Magazine, can anyone confirm?

>- 'Face the Raven' was initially going to be called 'Trap Street', and it features alien opinions on humans that are meant to be sincere. The 'raven' is to do with a tattoo on Rigsy's neck, counting down his remaining life (like that Justin Timberlake film, I guess).
- there's a scene in 'Heaven Sent' where the Doctor is collapsed in the TARDIS, and is imagining the TARDIS there only to explain what's really happening. The scene was the first one Capaldi filmed for the episode and is heart-breaking.
- not just more monsters to be announced for 'Hell Bent'; the cast list only notes Capaldi and Coleman, with 'many more' to be announced and Clare Higgins noted within the article.
- 'Hell Bent' draws together plenty of elements from across the series, even ones we didn't expect to matter.

I've omitted one part of this because it kind of gives away what the hybrid is (really strange how the magazine is spoiling a lot)

Yes. I have the perfect idea: when a companion leaves, don't make it tragic, make it bittersweet. Departures are supposed to be sad, yeah, but they don't need to be melodramatic. Not everybody who has TARDIS funtimes with the Doctor needs to meet a heartwrenching twist of fate.

The reboot was intended to turn the show into a drama, not the same cheesy scifi it had been in the past. Tragic moments fit the genre Moffat and RTD are writing. Really unfortunate, because the more tragic ends we get the less of an impact they have.
I hated Adric, but what happened to him was completely unexpected and had more of an emotional impact because every companion wasn't killed off or tragically removed prior to his departure.
