I was talking to my grandma once who is a pretty hardcore televangelist (Swaggart) following Christian and on one of the shows on his channel (he seriously has an entire channel for him and his charlatans) they always talk about how Christians are persecuted and stuff like that.
She will say there's a war against Christians and that Obama hates Christians and it seriously just blows my mind. Isn't religion supposed to be a private matter anyway? Here in my county there's a big stink about people not wanting to have prayer before a school board meeting, and saying that's wrong. Now, this isn't saying they can't pray at all, just not at the beginning of the meeting. How is that bad? It's a meeting for a school thing, why does there need to be a specialized prayer time? WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? WHY CAN'T THE ONES THAT WANT TO PRAY JUST DO IT BEFORE THE MEETING AND THEN THE MEETING BE ABOUT WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT.
THIS HAS GONE ON FOR THREE OR SO YEARS.

American Christianity, particularly the Evangelical segment (which is a large, if fractured, part of it) leans heavily on the idea of Christianity as an oppressed and persecuted faith, something it largely hasn't been in 1500 years. But the preachers are good at convincing their flocks that everyone is out to get them and force them to be Muslim Atheist Communist Jews.
