I thought the movie had a lot of neat little touches people wouldn't notice if they weren't Pynchon fans. Joaqim phoenix's character lives in Gordita beach in a house with a dutch door, which is a reference to the house Pynchon lived in in Manhattan beach while he was writing GR.
