The Fog of War was better IMO, from what I can remember from both. Fog of war felt more of a history lesson from a "new" perspective.

The Unknown Known felt like a movie with a direct political agenda, too soon maybe? I dunno.

The Greatest Raid of All

I swear I'm obsessed with this raid now. Whenever I hear exciting music I fantasize about those commandos running through the streets of St Nazaire shooting German soldiers, or that destroyer charging up the estuary in pitch black darkness, blinded by searchlights, getting shot to shit with Britain's entire future potentially at stake, yet the captain remaining totally calm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXusKM5uX0s

Also, Micky Burn biopic fucking when? That guy was like a real life James Bond, if Bond was a commando instead of a spy.

Hoop Dreams

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stCLhlqzWgc

According to Roger Ebert, after the film failed to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary, he and Gene Siskel learned about the nominating process. He said that members of the Academy's documentary committee held flashlights when they watched documentaries, and anyone who had "given up" could wave it against the screen. The movie was turned off if a majority waved their flashlights. Hoop Dreams (1994) was turned off after 15 minutes.

Awful. I dropped it midway during the interview with the man who couldn't stop saying "uhh" and couldn't keep his kids quiet. I understand it wasn't edited to keep opinions as unfiltered as possible, but when describing personal interpretations it comes off has disjointed and plain annoying.

This is funny because McNamara was doing the exact same thing with fog of war. He's considered the worst secretary of defense of all time for a reason. He pushed for war in vietnam based on methods he used to sell cars, that's how sociopathic he was. I have no interest in defending rumsfeld, but fog of war was nothing more than "We couldn't have known better at the time, sorry guys"

While this documentary isn't really that shocking to anybody who has a single clue about US foreign policy (which going by reddits /r/worldnews board or /pol/, most don't) it's interesting to get an inside view from someone who was actually involved in several NSA/CIA plots.

Fuck I have ex army friends from Afghanistan and they have come back as fucking sociopaths, every single one of them.

Also when they get drunk, they get incredibly violent. We had to call the cops on one when drunk ran around my friends birthday house party with an axe trying to kill people, then trapped a girl and tried to rape her.

Because he was a rich kid with influential parents and ex-army, he didn't even go to jail the fucktard, just got good behavior.

What I really loved about this one is that in the end, I didn't really know which side I hated more. Right at the end, when you see Micky Burn reciting some of his poetry, you only get to hear a single line of it:

"What a world we might have made..."

He fought like a lion to save England (and by extension the civilised world) from military invasion, only to watch it slowly collapse from within.

Two of the other surviving commandos (Tiger Watson was one) went off to Africa to dig wells and saved entire communities from death by drought. Heroes 'till the end.

Indonesian here, it's banned here and the people who lived in that era that i showed this documentary don't like it and constantly in denial since most of the people who live at that time are indoctrinated to stand by the side of the dictator whose responsible for that genocide. That incident was originally caused by several kidnapping and assassinations of high ranked military generals and high-profile political party member that caused outrage across the nations.

Some conspiracy theorists also believe that USA is indirectly involved with this.

Imo a 8/10 documentary. There's a slight mistranslation here and there a bit but overall it was pretty okay.

There is no way our grandfathers would have known that later generations would be irresponsible with the future. Remember that it was only 30 or so years ago where a cultural shift in Western culture had a generation damn the teachings and accomplishments of their parents.

During that documentary one of the commandos says that, given the same circumstances, he's sure the young people of today would fight just as hard for their freedom and rights, making the same sacrifice he did.

I guess he didn't anticipate the level of corruption that we face in our "leadership."

There's a lesson to be learned from that documentary, and it's that we all have a responsibility to protect the rights and freedoms of later generations. Whether it's from Nazis or from double-dealing politicians in our own establishment.

The only good thing they did was the cannibal interview, and that's only because none of the faggy journalists spoke.

Errol Morris is good at tearing into conservatives, but he's such a hardcore defender of Obama who's pulled so much shit of his own that I simply cannot take him seriously.

I remember the head of the Anti-Defamation league of New England came to my high school during some week of tolerance thing. He was a bigoted asshole. The city of Boston named a bridge after him... because "he built bridges in life". Ugh.

Holy jesus, what the fuck is wrong with Americans? Are you all that stupid and rude to each other you need a "anti-defamation" league to keep track of how racist you are?

Dear Zachary is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. In my opinion it shows pure good, and pure evil.

If you do decided to watch it, go into it with no knowledge of the film. Don't look at the IMDB page, or a youtube trailer. Just watch it.
>>
>>53486356
It's pretty sad honestly it's very one-sided for a documentary.
>>
>>53486408
Yeah, that I will agree with.
I suppose the director was best friends with the subject of the film, so it's hard not to be biased.
It would be very hard for it to be sympathetic for the mother.

Do they make up facts or something? Are they biased?

This is the most pointless documentary ever created. Of course you're going to get fat if you do nothing but stuff yourself with mcdonalds all day. Retards point at this film as a reason never to eat fast food whilst they eat their normal shitty diets convinced they know everything about nutrition.

Another vote for Adam Curtis. Everything he makes is fucking awesome. The only documentaries I have watched repeatedly because they are so dense and so mind-blowing.

Downside is, when you go watch other documentaries afterwards, they will feel cheap, thin and fluffed.
>>
>>53491883

Adam Curtis is a hack and a blowhard. His "work" is babby tier baseless conjecture narrated in a serious tone over stock footage, with no citations or references given. Fuck him, and fuck the faggots like him, especially Spurlock, Moore, that other cunt whose name I can't remember right now. Propagandists and fantasists.
