Lightsabers are beams of light emitted from a crystal in one direction. Having some perpendicular part of one beam does not fit any of the canon lightsabers. Normal ones, double-sabers, whips, any of that makes sense. This image sadly does not. Though again, it does look really cool.

You can't chop through an actual saber, only the hilt. A saber with a massively long beam would be devastating to the opponent as they could never even get close to you.

Yeah, the guards can be chopped off, but you know how in the original trilogy lightsaber fights weren't retardedly gymnastic? Well luke and vader would often lock sabers and struggled with each other, and from that position with the new lightsaber you can put a beam into someone's chest with a punching motion.

angling it upwards would mess up fighting, causing your opponent to hit the underside of the guard and bounce his blade towards you.
If you know anything about swords, that design is basically never used outside of video games. Also you can't catch blaster bolts near the hilt and send them back in the same direction.
I like the design, it looks clean and functional to me. I can understand people not liking the emitters sticking out so much, but to me that looks a bit shit, like now you just have a T shaped beam instead of three beams.
And yeah it can be cut, but jedis got on fine without crossguards before.
Just don't see the crossguards as defensive and the design makes sense imo
