I think he did not do it despite the additional evidence. But this is not the point; the point is that there clearly is some evidence the cops fucked with and reasonable doubt. So legally he is "not guilty".
I had a family member tell me over the holiday that they wouldn't talk to me because I thought he probably did it.

Similar thing happened to me over Paradise Lost. Watched it with my gf at the time and she was completely convinced of their guilt but I did a bit of my own research and found that they left a whole bunch of shit out (pretty much anything that would make the 3 look bad) and ended up coming to the conclusion that at least one of them was involved

It was her ex-boyfriend. He's shifty as fuck and he deleted messages from her voicemail after having to trial and error his way into her phone. Why was he even so heavily involved in the search?
Colborn probably found her body in the car, called in the plates to make sure, and dropped it off at the Avery property. Steven could have killed her and dumped the car and body too, but I have a hard time believing Colborn didn't have a part in this.
Regardless, the prosecution's case was total bullshit with nothing of substance and enough of evidence of police tampering was presented that Steven never should have been convicted of murder beyond reasonable doubt.

Not so much anything that made me think they were 100% guilty but more just the way the documentary was manipulated to leave anything out that would portray them negatively, like the fact that Damien was known for torturing and killing animals and had been witnessed doing it in public before.
Then stuff about the confession being induced over 12 hours which was probably not true.

I'm slightly over 50% convinced he did it, but the case was so mishandled and the evidence so thin, he should not have been convicted.
The nephew, however, at best knew Avery did it, but had no involvement in the actual crime.

18 years in prison for rape he didn't commit fucked Steven up. He killed her somewhere else, then brought her back and burned her body. Cops fake a bunch of evidence in an attempt to make the case airtight.
Her brother, roommate and/or ex boyfriend killed her and raped her. Burned her body. Cops find the car, move it to Stevens place because they know the more legal problems he has to deal with the better the chance he will settle his lawsuit. One of the cops come to the search party and not so subtly hint where to find the car. The real murderer clues in quickly and takes advantage of the opportunity and dumps the bones at the new location.
The cops really are fucked up. Straight up murdered her, planted all the evidence because they knew they were about to have their lives ruined.

Also sick of them repeating he was falsely improsioned for 18 years. He was going to serve 6 for a serious assault anyway. He ran a car off the road and put a gun to someone's head. 6 years is obviously terrible miscarriage as well, but the doc was too bias in making him out to be some innocent working class hero.

Theres something to Steven that makes him come off as honest when he says he didn't do it. Like when you look at someone try to lie their way out of something, you can see the shiftyness in their face.

True, and so it's worth noting that at the beginning of the deliberation, 7 jurors leaned not guilty, 3 guilty, and 2 undecided. According to the juror who was dismissed because of a family medical emergency, the 3 jurors who though Avery was guilty were very stubborn and had made up their minds before the trial even began. He also said the remaining jurors mostly just wanted to go home.

It happens a lot. Once someone is arrested for a violent crime the family and friends of the victim focus all their hate, anger, despair onto that person.
Guilt or innocence doesn't matter anymore. They're broken and just need closure. It take a very special kind of person to be able to rise above that level of grief and act rationally.
