Did you miss how poorly he wielded it? Other random stormtrooper beat his ass down. Horribly injured Kylo Ren mostly quite easily batted Finn's saber aside, save for a few moments where his injuries got the better of him.
They highlighted the difference between a force-user wielding a saber and a force-sensitive user wielding it pretty well.

In my opinion, not only were lightsabers cheapened by the prequels, but the lightsabers in the prequels cheapened the Emperor.
We never see him use a lightsaber in Return of the Jedi. He actually refers to Luke's saber as if it was paltry, saying something like, "Take your Jedi weapon. I am unarmed, strike me down." Even Vader, who has a lightsaber 100% of the time, was apparently not confident enough that he could saber the Emperor to death. And when the Emperor decided he was going to dispose of Luke he said, "Only now, in the end, do you understand the true power of the Dark Side," or something similar.
I got the impression that the Emperor was some badass evil wizard who was beyond physical weapons, beyond humanity, nearly invincible and all powerful. Now that they made him an evil politician man and gave him a lightsaber, he just seems like another "high level Jedi" type character and it really cheapened him.

Count Dooku and his almost 'rapier' style of combat with his lightsaber was kind of cool, even if AotC was god awful. Yoda being a flipping ninja was fine.
But seeing situations where some could have multiple lightsabers and transformed lightsabers? Kind of killed it for me.

If I swung my fists untrained at a trained boxer, I'd expect to be downed in 10 seconds or so. Finn fought a trained person and even nicked him on the shoulder before going down. Kylo is an apprentice, but as the previous trilogies show, even apprentice force users are supposed to be much stronger than non-force users. And the first force unleashed is a decent game, mostly for the missions were you re-enact movie scenes but change the story, but it's really short and easy, I would only recommend it if you really like Star Wars, don't know about the second one, but I heard it was more of the same and even shorter.

Why are swords considered to be more civilized weapons than guns? Civilizations were pretty much at their worst when swords were commonplace and the sword only really took on an air of nobility in the 1800's after guns started to dominate combat and that was only because they were seen as prestigious icons of wealth and power, not actual weapons to be fought with.
