So why did he let himself get killed here? Shouldn't he have just tried to run away with the others? He didn't even become "more powerful", since he would have been much more of a threat to the Empire alive than occasionally talking to Luke as a ghost.
>>
>>64048487
>He didn't even become "more powerful", since he would have been much more of a threat to the Empire alive than occasionally talking to Luke as a ghost.
For the millionth time since 1977, he wasn't talking about force powers or becoming a voice to talk to Luke. That's when Luke became personally motivated to fight Vader. My evidence is that being a force ghost nets him nothing like you said and in Jedi you fight out Obi-Wan was counting on Luke to kill Vader, he didn't even know about Leia (another thing episode III fucked up).
>>
He was lying, he knew at best he would just become a spooky ghost who could give Luke a pep talk now and again.
Vader just called his bluff
>>
I always thought it was maybe something they were planning on expanding on in Empire but scrapped it
>>
But he did become more powerful. He literally cheated death and became an immortal ghost that could speak to Luke and guide him whenever he liked, and there was fuck all Vader could do about it.
>>
Why did he completely disappear when he was hit?
>>
>>64048591
>he didn't even know about Leia

Wot, in Jedi Obi Wan literally mentions about Lukes sister when he sits on the log
>>

>>
>>64048672
Couldn't he guide luke while alive? Why do you need to be a spooky ghost to do talk to luke?
>>
>>64048487
he was doomed, the stormtroopers flanked him and vader was leading the fight, no chance of surviving at all, so he became a force ghoast
>>
I heard that Obi-Wan should have had more scene, but a lot was removed from the script, and Alec was mad about that.

Three reasons:

1. So Luke and Co. could escape. He wasn't going to be able to break away from Vader and the Stormtroopers watching the fighter. He let himself die so the others wouldn't try and save him and get themselves killed.

2. He was at peace with himself, and being at peace with yourself means accepting your own death.

3. Guilt. This is a man who failed the Galaxy. Who watched his brother in arms go from his best friend, to an absolute monster in a short period of time. When the time came for him to finish him off, he couldn't bring himself to kill Anakin. And that in turn caused the deaths of dozens of more Jedi, thus securing Palpatine's power even more.

Obi-Wan managed to one-up his apprentice one more time by cheating death BETTER than Vader did. Anakin must have been extremely pissed to learn that his former master was put into an unwinnable situation, and lived on with his body broken, but wisdom still intact.

Leia knew about Obi won and that he was jedi, she could went to him for training, not Luke's fault his sister is lazy/impatient.

It is not directly stated, but she know ALOT about him, so I think its implied. She knows his name, even his nick name, Ben, Knew he served with her 'father' in the clone wars. So if she knew even the tiniest detail about the Clone Wars then she knows Jedi's were the generals of that war.
>>

> I think if the real Vader showed up he would probably at least hear him out.

Yea, and I would of thought Obi won pleading with Anakin to not turn sith would of been more effective. Like he was closet thing to a father figure (till sheev swooped in after Anakin was already strong padawan) he had. They went through so much shit together, like if anakin was to trust anyone, it should of been Obi.

Sith in their developing years are kinda bitchy and not easy to manage.

Usually when you say something, you just say something and whether it is something you can support or not, agree or not, is your problem and I have no obligation to explain myself and you have no obligation to neither agree or refute me. Usually when you say something and someone hears you and certain communication is estabilished then there is something that we can both see and if that doesn't happen then we are obviously not going to agree with each other. I could hit you in the head and provide details and offer you a report and refine my claims about this multibillion dollar space fantasy franchise for kids assuming it is absolutely explainable in scientific or otherwise consensual way, but I don't work for you and unlike the base dweller sperglords you usually see I don't mind if a stranger on the other side of the globe does not see this particular point of this particular franchise in the same way that I do and it doesn't bother me the slightest that you feel I need to "provide supporting details" in order for you to accept me. What bothers me is that this strange teenager or, god forbids, adult manchild, thinks that this is precisely how conversations should go and is actually expecting one to respond on that similar low level talk.

What shit is this? The Force has no personal motivations. If The Force had "good" inclinations Sith and Dark Force users wouldn't have the capacity to wield it.

Also, that entire scene fucked up/prematurely assumed what the force was. You can use the force to move objects, manipulate minds, and perform feats your body couldn't naturally accomplish, but WTF does using The Force have to do with shooting missiles into a tiny hole? Were they implying Luke used The Force to guide missiles traveling a few hundred miles an hour and several hundred feet in the distance into the Death Stars core when in Empire he could barely beckon his lightsaber to himself?
