What did you guys think of episode 2?

Episode 1 consensus:
>much better than expected
>syfy stepping up
>CGI and prosthetics impressive for a miniseries budget
>good acting
>Colm Meaney and Charles Dance absolutely brilliant
>faithful to the novel

Protip: today is Arthur Clarke's birthday, he would have been 95
>>
Still not on par with BSG though

I recognised the girl from Orange is the new Black and squeed like a dying pig. She is my absolute favourite and I love the amount of screen time she got, such a beautiful voice.

The scene with the pregnant woman touching the portal thing was confusing.

What bothered me was how quickly the humans in attendance at the party turned on the alien. If an Alien Species helped out the human race that much, I would gladly let them slaughter/eat/rape low double digit of the population without batting an eye. All he said was some cryptic thing about an end of an era or a change coming. They all looked like he farted directly into their mouths. They will play up the 'the aliens were evil all along, they betrayed us' angle way too hard in Episode 3.

My only concern with the show so far is how quickly everyone unites. You really need to suspend belief to allow for such a sudden radical change in ideas in just 15 years. I think a unified militaristic resistance would have formed very early on, and attempted to sneak nuclear weapons on board the space ships or create massive instability through false attacks designed to look like alien sabotage.

I'd like to think that when offered everything on a silver platter, humanity on the back of thousands of years of critical thinking and barbaric instinct of self-preservation, would closely investigate any catch-22's.

Ep.2 seemed like a whole lot of nothing, frankly. Too much talking, not enough showing. Granted, cgi paradise would be expensive, it's more of a barely nothing happens kinda way. A lot of the plot progression seems cryptic just for the sake of it, under-explained or at odds with what is a reasonably realistic approach, moreso than the 1st one, I thought.

Stuff I found iffy:
- A brazilian woman that speaks perfect english and falls back on spanish for some reason instead of portuguese. Also, she's called beretta for some reason.
- No reason for scientific progress being halted offered. Someone doing something positive being met with acceptance is valid like say, "Hey, I'll stop crime" you go "Sure", not "Why?". Ceasing something positive like research shouldn't be and you're not really told why.
- A lot of what Karellan/The overlords accomplish seem to be cloak & dagger for no reason. Why not ask for a couple of humans and then stuff all the probes wherever inside your ship rather than out in the open? God knows they'd earned the right to ask.
- Speaking of god, Beretta seemed to have missed the mark entirely. Why would you be so quick to turn on someone, even the devil, for something that didn't affect you at all? Why aren't her suspicions ever given voice other than through slight allusion? Why doesn't she share her doubts with anyone?
- The reaction to Karellan at the party seemed off. If someone told you essentially that your time is up, wouldn't you ask some questions? Ditto for the "you were heading for technology you had no hope of controlling" thing.
- Also, how contrived is it that a vial cures everything except "that one disease" which there's only one vial's worth of cure? And that doesn't raise any questions either??

I'm liking it but it's raising a ton of questions and issues I'm afraid won't be tackled satisfactorily because reasons. (Mainly, it's not a book) Hoping ep.3 is great because any less will feel horrible.

The fuck? They made Childhood's end into a tv show? Why did I never hear about this?

Did they fuck it up? Is it a pure recreation of the book, or is it an alternate story?

I love Clark's stuff, it would be a shame if they butchered his story

It is a pretty short book, so I guess it's couple-of-episodes material

A lot of people assume the ending will be different since it's not exactly a happy ending for humanity and such movies or tv-shows are never made. I wouldn't be surprised if they shoe-horn some evil side to the demons in the last episode, or even yet change the ending completely.

I hope I'll be delightfully surprised.

I was really trying to recall if that was in the book.the book did not go into the details of how world got fixed but here it seemed like a libtards wet dream with everyone instantly stopping their age old conflicts and the entire Us navy being converted into food carrier to africa. maybe I recall it wrong but in the book even when people could no longer fight with guns they still wanted to fight and it took years for that to die down. I know they have to speed things up but it all just came out looking retarded

No, it didn't take years in the book. When war against the white population broke out in Africa and when the Spaniards staged a bullfight the demons forced everyone responsible to share the misery they created turned up to 11, and thus everyone stopped at once.

People were however dissident and that took years to die off, but people couldn't use violence in a large scale without suffering themself.

Um... a long time ago. Was it the one where two factions fought on the Moon, but it was their first space battle, so neither was prepared for it? One faction had a spaceship and the other had a tower with a very strong shield on the surface?

There was this guy with a suitcase that brought a secret weapon to the tower... some kind of beam?

>just download it from pirate bay and watch it with whatever the fuck you want

>>
>>63720188
>so its 3 episodes right?

yes

>no. i only stream

why? it's literally two clicks to get everything torrented in HD and it's completely safe
>>
>>63720188
>no. i only stream
So you're an idiot then, alright.
>>
this mini-series continues a general idea in television.

make satan and demons out to have honor and we should respect them, etc. etc.

it desensitizes you to how ugly and foul they really are and mark my words, one day they will walk the earth again and because of this type of conditioning, many people will be cool with it.

This stuff is literally subversive low level demon positive indoctrination for the normies and all the edgy kids out there that have an axe to grind with their Creator so they will say really non-aware stuff like this was "refreshing" and a "unique" perspective on the whole morality debate.

Playing with poison and unfortunately for those who are a generation or two disconnected spiritually, they do not even realize what is happening to them.

why? you can noting do wrong with streaming...

> Religion getting BTFO

I don't remember the book being that full-on. Wasn't the fact "all religion ended" only like a few lines or something?
>>
>>63720774
what makes you think that?
i have very fast internet so streaming is no problem...
>>
>>63720867
>torrenting
>HD quality always
>every single movie and tv series easily accessible
>safe
>store the movies/series on your HDD for later viewing, never dl them again

>streaming
>almost no HD,
>limited number of movies and series,
>less safe,
>have to stream every time since you don't have it on your HDD)
>depends on internet connection,
>only retarded pre-teens that don't understand technology use it

I can go on
>>
>>63720867
All insults aside, streaming has several problems. It's usually low res (though you may find pages that has HD shows) but the biggest problem is that you depend on it, and you're limited on your shows or films. Say you want to watch a foreign film that isn't on Netflix or on that page you stream. Torrents are easy to use, you stick to the popular pages, like thepiratebay or kat.cr, and you'll never be bother with virus or fakes. Just try to learn how to torrent, it's not that fucking hard. I'm giving you a break because I know you're not american and I'm not either.

>>
>>63720848
Theres a couple of paragraphs about how the time portal thing the overlords give humanity basically wipes out religion overnight but other than that there's not much outside of a passing mention every now and again

CHECK YOUR CIS SCUM SHITLOOOOOORD
>>
looking forward to the third one tonight, really liked the first two episodes, good shit syfy you fucking faggots
>>
I was amazed SyFy didn't back out on all the atheist stuff. It was actually rather well done considering all that dialogue was never in the book.
>>
>expecting them to not go into the artistic decay at all in the series, or give New Athens its full due
>One guy at the party mentions an LGBT author and his works being inspired by the homophobia he grew up around
>Someone actually ask the question, "If he was living in this utopia, what would he write about?"

Small detail, but at least they are hinting at what eventually causes New Athens to break down and nuke itself
>>

g-guys is it possible we might be entering syfy golden age of television?
