>With “The Hunger Games” franchise behind him, Josh Hutcherson will go from one of the biggest franchises of all time to a film about one of the greatest disasters of all time.

>Hutcherson is in talks to join James and Dave Franco in New Line’s “The Disaster Artist,” the comedy based on the making of the cult classic, “The Room.”

>James Franco will also direct the pic from a script penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

>The film takes a fun, in-depth look at how Tommy Wiseau came up with the idea of the film hailed by many as one of the worst films ever made. James Franco will play Wiseau while Dave Franco will play Greg Sestero, who co-starred in the film. While many consider it a bad movie, its cult following is wide; theaters across the nation still play the film on midnight runs over the weekend, with many of the screenings involving fan participation similar to “The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s” midnight screenings.

>Hutcherson will play Philip Haldiman, who portrayed Denny (the neighboring college student) in “The Room.”

>Good Universe is producing along with James Franco and Point Grey Pictures principals Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

>Hutcherson has also appeared in Franco’s last two directorial efforts, “In Dubious Battle” and “The Long Home,” which are both in post.

I'd rather see a documentary based on Greg's Disaster Artist. Essentially going through the story with archival photos, footage (of which theres tons of BTS), talking head interviews, etc. Truth is stranger than fiction, and it would do the mythos more justice than a fictionalized or narrative version.

That said, maybe Franco can come up with something good. I don't know. It's just odd to cast his brother as Greg, introducing an unnecessary fraternal angle.

You know how to do a proper movie of the Disaster Artist?

Convince Tommy some rich producer wants to fund a legitimate drama movie from him. Get him to make another movie, legitimately thinking he is doing it seriously. Simultaneously just film a making of of the the film while following him around.

You release both the documentary, and the finished, serious attempt at a drama which together make a complete disaster artist movie.

Instead we have Rogan and Franco weed lmao keks who would've watched the movie stoned, figured it was their own personal in joke, and have decided to absolutely bastardize it by going HEY LETS MAKE A MOVIE WITH US ABOUT THAT XD WE CAN EVEN MAKE WEED JOKES LMAO

It's going to be fucking awful and I absolutely hate Franco for it.

I met him just over the weekend at the yearly The Room screening here in LA. He is very very short. Also the showing sucked dick some douche wasn't allowed in because he was an asshole last year. So he barged his way through and then we had had to wait on cops to remove him. Then the movie ended halfway through due to "technical difficulties". Like they play that shit on a DVD player it's not hard to fix I'm sure they could have. It was a pretty terrible showing, worst one I've been to yet.

The crowd was also really terrible, lots of normies who never saw The Room before who just yelled all sorts of angry shit at people and Tommy. Prolly the last time I'll go to a showing.

I loved the audiobook, and getting Sestero himself as narrator would be pretty damned neato.

The only bad part of the book is Sestero's obvious bitterness at never making it big, and his tired tale of failure. Everything relating to Tommy is fantastic.

All these books are written by ghost writers. It's probably some up and coming college kid with big dreams, trying too hard, waiting for his big break.

>>
Do we know what Tommy made of The Disaster Arist? There's a bit where he describes his childhood as "cold and moist"
>>
>>63439719
I don't mind him talking about himself, it's just always so dull. The majority of Greg based scenes could have been cut entirely with no detriment to the book, because he doesn't see that nobody wants to read about a failed actor. You'd literally find them in every single retail store in LA, working to buy more headshots so they can break into the business next year.
>>
>>63439798
>because he doesn't see that nobody wants to read about a failed actor.

No, he didn't see that you didn't want to read about a failed actor. Don't put the whole world in your shoes.

I tended to avoid failed actor stories, so it didn't bother me in the slightest, and I know I'm not the only one who didn't mind it.
>>
>>63439798
Most of that was just providing context

If book was just Greg telling Tommy stories it would be nowhere near as good, not to mention he'd come off as a dick for not revealing anything about himself while telling all this stuff about tommy

I turned it off after a half hour or so. It's fucking terrible. It's filled with unnecessary stylized cuts and multi shot boxes all over the screen. I think the point where I turned it off was where they're crossing a river or something and there's like 5 straight minutes of the camera in muddy water.

The movie could legit be another Ed Wood if done right. The book, and the situations it's based on, have a sense of heart that takes everything a bit beyond just comedy.

I wonder if they'll touch on the darker aspects of things as well. Tommy manipulation and wanting to feel power over Greg, his whole life in Eastern Europe. There's some legit drama stuff there.
>>
>>63440278
Was it really only five seconds?
>>
>>63427324
>That said, maybe Franco can come up with something good.

He's a mediocre director. Child of God was fucking terrible. There's great potential for a film in Disaster Artist, thought it right when I finished. Was so disappointed that Franco got the rights. I was hoping he would just serve as a producer or at worst play Greg. No idea why he thinks he can play Tommy and direct. It's going to be awful.
>>
>>63440278
>Chubee or Nachubee
>DAT is a quession

>>
>>63429780
>James is actually a pretty good actor.

Not really. He can be okay in low key things. He has no knack for imitation though. Did you see his Hugh Hefner? It was terrible. He is going to have Tommy's voice and mannerism all wrong. The role should have been offered to Dafoe. Franco has a fucking ego thinking he can do it.
>>
>literally directed 12 films
>only one of them was critically acclaimed

He's always trying to adapt shit that's over his head. Maybe this simple biography will be closer to his level.
>>
>>63440521
He really is full of himself. Just look at this poster for another Faulkner misfire.
I like how Faulkner's name is virtually invisible under Franco's enormous name on top.
>>
>>63440037
That would be nice but I'm skeptical. I just know when I see the trailer I'm going to be disappointed that the central character doesn't look, act or sound a thing like Tommy.
>>
>not letting Greg play himself
Are they fucking serious? I hope he atleast gets a cameo in the coffee shop scene (as one of the people who orders before Johnny and Mark)
>>
>>63440595
It's ironic that he's portraying a guy with an ego so large he was oblivious that he was biting off more than he could chew.

>>63440691

>>
>>63440894
Take a look at the movies Franco directed on Wikipedia. The reception sections should clue you in on how bad he actually is.

What really sucks is that it seems it's because his talents are no match for his ambitions. The guy absolutely loves William Faulkner, and every Faulkner book he's adapted turned out shitty, but with a few redeeming qualities.

I'm hoping against hope that this straightforward biography of a strange man won't be too much for him.
>>
