I have a theory about Feig and this film.
I've been looking into the villain, Rowan, after comments I saw from Feig about his childhood - how he feels more comfortable being subordinate to women, hates male culture, hates manly men, etc.
Rowan seems to be a lot like him - generally unpleasant, affected dress sense, hatred of conventional society. He eventually assumes the form of a giant amorphous male figure, representing Feig's own struggle with masculinity. That figure is then shot in the privates by his cast of strong female characters and confined to a hellish ghost dimension.
I genuinely think Feig made this film as an act of metanarrative castration.

I went to the theater today to see this movie. I paid for a ticket of Infiltrator, because I knew that one was good, but I went to the other theater right next to it. They were starting at the same time.
I was blown away. This movie is amazing. There were some bad parts. For example, the villain made me a little uncomfortable. It felt like they were making fun of men generally, and internet posters specifically, which felt a little meanspirited. There were some obvious "take thats" which I felt dragged the movie down a bit. Also, the final fight scene has clearly been victimized with a hatchet, because it's missing a lot of scenes, and ends abruptly. Fat Whitey and Pretty Brunette have very little comedic talent.
That being said, there are a lot of good things too. Black Stereotype and Lesbian are hilarious. Chris Hemsworth is the funniest part of the movies. The music is good, and the plot is just a retread of the original ghostbusters. It isn't original, but it worked.
I enjoyed the movie so much, after leaving the theater, I went up to the ticket booth and bought a ticket for it, just so they'd get my money in their box office statistics.
