Reducing Fury Road to "corporate product" is unfair. It showed just how bad every blockbuster really is, it's craftmanship was excellent. Fury Road was definitely fucking shit. The chase is fine technically, but I couldn't give a crap about Hardly Max and Furiosa. Writing and both of the actors were just so bad. How can anyone compare poorly written trash like Fury Road to true masterpieces like Predator and Die Hard? Hell, even Last Action Hero is a hundred times better.
Also, Predator (while I prefer to read it as a rejection of technology and a return to primitivism, as well as a brains over brawn metaphor) is very clearly able to be read as a film about AIDS. A bunch of macho gay dudes think they can fuck anything, but a hidden enemy begins to wipe them all out. The only one who can defeat it is the one who covers himself in mud (condom) and rejects his masculinity (guns). Might sound silly but there is a very good essay about this somewhere, recommend you read it.
Die Hard, on the other hand, can be read no other way than as a metaphor for a bisexual man who ruined his marriage through his own sexual curiosity and drifts through a labyrinth of gay hook ups before finally overcoming these feelings and reconnecting with his wife. It's good as a pure action movie and all, but there's no other substance to it besides gay shit
Anyway, the reason Mad Max 1 and 2 are good and Fury LOAD is pure shit is because 1 and 2 had wastelands that meant something. 1 is Max fighting against an insane world and when he finally succumbs to the violence around him he embraces it and becomes the hardest motherfucker on the block. 2 never explains the apocalypse because for Max there may as well have never been a world to begin with, let alone an end of the world. He drifts through life alone and on autopilot, he does what he needs to do and has no interest in other people. Sometimes Fury Road has some decent moments that go back to these themes but in general is a poorly written, absurdly plotted, badly acted shitshow with repetitive action and a director that no longer understands the character he created
