>I'm not going home not really
>proceeds to get on the train to go home
>>
>>71161669
Well I think the implication was that he didn't consider the house at Privet Drive his true home. And I think it's completely understandable as to why he felt that way. Quite simply he just wasn't accepted, loved, or welcomed there by the Dursleys.

However, at Hogwarts Harry was loved, welcomed, and accepted, Hogwarts was where he truly belonged. In a sense, Hogwarts was his true home.

So when Harry said, "I'm not going home, not really" he is remarking on how his house at Privet Drive with the Dursleys is not is true home and that Hogwarts is.

It's not explicitly explained in either the films or the books, it's more of a symbolic meaning that only a true Potterhead would pick up on. I'm glad to help you out with this because I can understand how that line could be confusing to others.
>>
>>71161669
Not really.
>>
>>71161910
So basically what you're saying is that he did not went home, at least not really?
>>
>>71161669
HOWEVER
>>
>>71161669
he's crazy dont listen to him
>>
>>71161999
Yes, he did not really go home because it was the end of the year at Hogwarts and every other student was going back to their homes.

However, as I previously explained, the place where Harry was headed to was not a place that he considered his true home.

So while he was on the train to go back "home" he was not really going home because he didn't consider his life with the Dursleys at Privet Drive home.
>>
>>71161910
Good explenation
Good post
>>
huh, i just watched wizard people dear reader yesterday
>>
>>71162076
Man, so he didn't go home after all, at least not really. I guess I need to rewatch the movies and reread the books now.

Why did Lord Moldybutt go through all the trouble of rigging the Triwizard Crown? Would it have not been simpler to make Harry's sock drawer the portkey on day one?
>>
>>71161910
yes, I'm going home ron, I'm going home, ron
however
>>
>>71161669
Was there a reason for him not being able to stay at Hogwarts?
>>

>I'm not going home not really
That's a double negative, he actually IS going home.

Yes well done harry, well done.

HOWEVER, TELL ME ABOUT BANE
>>
>>71162159
Ya, Hogwarts is what Harry considered home. As they say, "home is where the heart is", and one thing I can say for certain is that Harry's heart was at Hogwarts.

So while all the students got on the train to bring them back home, Harry was in a sense leaving his home.

>>71162208
Hmm... I'm not familiar with that line in either the books or the movies. Care to elaborate?
>>
>>71162229
They use the summer break to scrub all the blood out of the castle
>>
>>71161910
All shitposting aside, this would get at least a C+, maybe a B, in an AP English class in the United States.
>>
>>71162229
He stays there for the summer once in one of the books, it's boring as shit.
>>
>>71162229
He's actually more protected at the Dursley's than at Hogwarts from Voldemort.

Lily's sacrifice for Harry extends to Petunia through blood, so he's protected whilst he's there.
>>
>>71162364
As an English teacher, I's give it a C at best since it's a generic response with not much individual thought to it.
>>
>>71162284
So hypothetically speaking, if Harry were to have stayed at Hogwarts during the summer break, would he be at home, or not really?
>>
>>71161910

>>
>>71162229
Well before I can answer this question two things need to be made clear. Hogwarts is safe for Harry solely because Dumbledore is the only wizard that Voldemort fears, so if Dumbledore is not there, like when he left to arrange the Order of the Phoenix, Harry is very vulnerable.

Secondly, when Lily (Harry's mother) died a charm was created that extended through Petunia's blood (Harry's Aunt) that protected him at the Dursley's from Voldemort. So Harry was much safer with the Dursley's than a Dumbledore-free Hogwarts.

I always felt like that was a bullshit excuse Rowling added on later to explain why Dumbledore would drop the ball by letting Harry be tormented for 12 years at the Dursley's.
>>
>>71162457
Hypothetically speaking, I think that is a correct assumption to make.

>>71162472
I'm glad to have shown you some of the hidden goodies Miss Rowling has hidden throughout our beloved franchise. Cheers to (hopefully) a new Potterhead!!

>>71162474
Hmm... I don't believe that is a polite thing to say, regardless if I have autism or not. Please refrain from using autism as a derogatory phrase in the future, because we are capable of great things!!!
>>
>>71162260

Yeah. He went to public school with Dudley. Read a book.
>>
>>71162229
its revealed later that the blood magic that kept him safe from voldie needed to recharge every year for a bit.
>>
>>71162552
That is actually incorrect. Miss Rowling had many key plot points planned well in advanced, even before she starting writing the first book. She certainly had that explanation planned beforehand.
>>
>>71162638
>Read a book.
nah i already wasted too much time reading them 10 years ago

Why? That doesn't even make any sense. Why does that particular spell work like that? The magic system in HP is such fucking nonsense.

>>

>>
>>71162829
>Not having heard of Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration
>>
>>71162552
this so much.

there are so many things that she just jams in at the end.
>>
>>71161910
No you idiot.

He says he's not going home, not really, because even as he rides his train back to his house, time continues on. He isn't going home, he is constantly going somewhere, but his destination isn't set, which is the ultimate conundrum of life. Harry is trying to explain this to Ron because though their paths intersect quite often, in the end each must continue onward in their journey through time.
>>
>>71162829
there's no such thing as poor in the wizarding world really.
just a well fed middle class (weasleys) and a super rich upper class (malfoys, potters).
>>
>>71162721
The magic only holds so long as he lives with a relative of his mother, and he has to consider their place his "home." Apparently it being the place he returns to every summer is enough for it to be his home.
>>
>>71162926
this to be quite honest.
>>
>>71162721
It's because a wizard did it
>>
>>71162757
Dumbledore's sexuality was never discussed in either the films or the books. Miss Rowling just wanted to delve deeper into a previously unknown side of Dumbledore to give Potterheads more information about some of our most beloved characters.

>>71162815
Well to answer your previous question, the answer would, quite simply put, have to be, yes, yes he would be at home if he were to stay at Hogwarts during the summer months.

And thankyou for the compliment my fellow Potterfan. Feel free to join us at, r/harrypotter if you'd like to join the ranks of the Potterheads!!

>>71162829
Unfortunately, the effects of class system rooted in capitalism that has developed in the Western World extends into the wizarding world too I'm afraid. The oppression of the rich and wealthy knows no bounds, sadly.

>>71162926
Hmm... an interesting theory, one I have not heard before. I will have to take some time to ponder on it.

Also, please refrain from using such crass language, we are all Potterfans here, let's get along!!

>>
>>71163058
The implications of this protection spell that Lily cast on Harry have always confused me. So it's explained multiple times that it's basically Lily's love that protects Harry from Lord Moldybutt, right? So, from this, are we to infer that no wizard has ever died trying to protect someone they love in similar circumstances? I mean it's not like evil wizards only came along with Moldybutt, right? But before Harry no one had ever survived the killing curse. I am so confused.

What the fuck did you expect, /v/? Harry potter is one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books are g-g-good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
