Throughout all this Ghostbusters remake hullabaloo, where was the hate train for the remakes of Robocop and Total Recall?

I felt like I was the only one that was truly livid that two classic Verhoeven movies were being tainted with boorishly CGI driven imitators, and still haven't seen either out of protest.

Yet, people were okay with Total Recall (despite the charisma vacuum that is Colin Farrell) and people even LIKED the new Robocop despite it lacking any good satire (A parody of Fox News and Bill O'Reilly? Oh my god this has never been done before!) and a fun but at the same time, plausibly gritty looking future (ED-209's in Iraq lmao)

So truly, why does the new Ghostbusters get the hate? Why the backlash against reboots now?
>>
why are you posting this exact same thread a second time
>>
>>70992345
The 'backlash' for those reboots was discrete and came in the form of them just not doing well because nobody was interested

The difference is though that while these films were content to be quietly shitty the new ghostbusters film is being actively pushed in a manner that can only be described as aggressively retarded.

It wouldn't have been nearly as bad had they not opted to market is as a 'girl power' movie, which they did (Going so far as to take a picture of the cast and female set crew members together for some shitty social media thing)

Basically this one just made itself a larger target

Total Recall had a comfy art direction. Would watch again just for that.

Hey it's this thread again

Quick catch up for the people not up to date :

Robocop remake was hated and it exploded when the first picture of the Black suit went online.

The Total Recall reboot received much hatred aswell and then was promptly forgotten.

The TMNT reboot was getting shit day one and it's still getting shit.

The Fantastic Four reboot was hated as soon as Fox said they wanted to do a FF4 reboot.

Even Spider-Man caught some flack for being rebooted.

and it goes on and on.

The best thing a reboot/remake these days has been is forgettable (Ben-Hur 2016 is definitely going that route).

The Total Recall remake was obviously just another film script that had the title and a few plot points from the older Verhoven movie grafted to it to help sell it.
>>
Total Recall and Robocop were remakes of good movies, and sucked. Everyone recognises this. The directors and actors took their money, silently apologised, and we all agreed to never talk about it again.

Ghostbusters is a remake of a good movie that sucks, and instead of taking their punishment the studio and creative team and screaming "muh soginy" to try and boost their obviously shitty film.

Hollywood used to be the last bastion of true capitalism - things made money or did failed, and that was that. This is the first true example of neo-liberal concern trolling forcing its way in to Hollywood, where a films failure is politicised and the blame falls on the patriarchy.
>>

As has been said in every other thread exactly like this, there was plenty of hate for both of those movies. They were announced, hated, then screened and hated all over again. They were just hated in general. But it was that benign "why?" kind of hate that just fades.

Now this Ghostbusters thing is an obvious cash grab just like those other two were, but the excuse for rebooting a classic this time is that all the protagonists are female. That gives it intrinsic social feminism armor, causing any criticism to get handwaved as misogyny. So you can hate bastardizing Verhoeven and no one cares, but hating on bastardizing Ghostbusters is now sexist. So now it's a vicious cycle of people hating on the movie and people hating on the obvious white males dressing down this movie for what it is. Which is a cash grab piece of garbage.

There was a hate train. But mostly it was just apathy. Since they were just modernized films but mostly the same old thing rehashed. Fembusters seems more offensive since it is adding a lame ass gimmick, and changing the tone of the story a lot. A lot of gross out, physical comedy and wacky hijinks.

This is the first I've heard of this.

Being based of a book total recall gets some more leeway as be just another adaption rather then a remake. This was helped by the film makers going out of their way to make it different to the original.

Also both films just advertised themselves being a remaining of a classic film for the next generation. Ghost busters if going out of it's way pretend it's some sort of feminist statement while trying the claim that is isn't doing that.
>>
Total Recall was actually a pretty good movie.
It can't compare to Verhoevens classic, so it appears to suck. I liked it.

If you genuinely don't remember them getting shat on over just their trailers, you are too young for this website. Reported
>>
They both suck, so you're not missing anything, Even Jessica Biel couldn't help the Recall remake, as for Robocop's remake it had nobody of any particular interest at all. Gary Oldman must have fucking milked them for a shitload of cash, however, so he made bank on it I'm sure.

Travesties of no talent lifeless no creativity movie making, honestly.

This. I actually quite enjoyed the Total Recall remake. Very different movie to the Arnie one, of course.
>>
Only man children ever liked ghost busters to begin with. Verhoeven fans are patricians that don't give a fuck.
>>
>>70992345
because now we've hit the tipping point, also insulting your fanbase is only going to make them hate you more. if they didn't cry misogyny to dismiss all criticism there wouldn't be nearly as much hate
