Thoughts on the original Rocky?

I think it's one of the best films of all time.

One of the best films of all time, a shame people forget movies like this, balboa, first blood and copland can show that he really can act well
>>
Just watched it again yesterday. People forget that the first one is a really good movie. Rocky balboa is surprisingly good too

Rocky is really good. I haven't seen it in ages and thought it was shit because of Stallone and the fact it's a boxing movie. Re-watched it a couple of months ago and I was blown away, it's a really good movie and shows us that Stallone can write a good script and act correctly. That fucking fight was thrilling and the last 10 minutes are pure greatness. Rocky II is pretty good too but ultimately feels like a remake of the original, except that this time Rocky wins. III and IV are decent action movies too. V feels kinda pointless. I'm not a fan of Balboa (2006) but it makes a decent conclusion for the series, I guess.

One of the best movies to have received the Oscar for Best Picture in my opinion.

I think it's the very best that a "Movie" can hope to be but it definitely doesn't qualify as a "film".

watched this with my ex gf and she loved it, but she thought it was about a guy with a mental disability overcoming adversity to become a champion

i cant help but watch it in this light now, still a fantastic movie

Agreed, this is in the top of it's class (the movie). Stallone's performance is the best of his career (First Blood is good but he doesn't emote enough to top Rocky).
And the mother fucker wrote it? People don't seem to give him credit on that. Sure it's just a "boxing movie" but both writing and acting were equally solid.

Any other good underdog movies?

That was my favorite part about Rocky, he was treated poorly and was barely scraping by but he somehow pulled through in the end.

Rocky balboa:
>During preproduction, as the filmmakers tried to find a good location to shoot the fight, they met with constant obstacles - every suitable arena was booked out. Sylvester Stallone knew that HBO had an upcoming PPV event with Bernard Hopkins taking on Jermaine Taylor in the main event, at the Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Stallone suggested that the film could piggyback the real event, using the real HBO format, the real crowd, even the real press conference setup. As such, the press conference scene was shot only moments after the real press conference with Hopkins and Taylor, whilst the scene when Rocky walks through the curtain and down to the ring was shot using the real Hopkins/Taylor crowd. Stallone was hoping that the crowd wouldn't boo or cause any problems, but as he made his way to the ring (as Rocky), the whole building gave him a standing ovation and began to chant 'ROCKY, ROCKY'. The crowd was never told to stand up or to chant - they had done it completely on their own, and according to the filmmakers, by far the biggest cheer of the night was for Rocky, not for any of the real fighters.

even Stallone forgot how good Rocky is.

The story of how the movie came to be is really interesting, Stallone basically went from shooting soft core porn to pay the rent to overnight movie star.
I also like how budget constraints made them be creative and original in telling the story, large budgets aren't necessarily a good thing
