Yeah it was PG-13, one of the reasons FN convinced them to accept the sponsorship that lead to them getting (REAL) P90s was that they put tiny holes in people so they could depict the gunfights with little blood.
BTW, in case anyone didn't know those were real P90s, the show didn't use fake guns. FN credits the show with generating alot of sales which helped the company during a bad financial period, developing the 4.7mm round and the P90 cost them a fuckton of capital.
The reason you never see the Genii shotgun being used is their technical advisers were asked to design a 1940's era anti wraith gun and came up with a 3 barreled pump shotgun with a lever to cock the hammers, the idea being that it would be perfect for taking down a regenerating enemy at close range. The props were built and prepared before the production and special effects people were consulted as to how to depict it being used on someone while still being PG-13. As it turns out there is no realistic way to show 3 simultaneous point blank 10 gauge blasts while keeping things PG-13, it would simply obliterate a person in a explosion of gore.
So they just stand around with them and never actually use them the whole series.

I have no idea, it probably came down to the fact that Wraith don't wear body armor. You can punch holes in a Jaffa's body armor all day long with spark effects or use the awesome radio detonated blast effects for a Staff weapon and still be PG-13 but multiple shotgun blats are impossible to realistically depict that way. For the same reason there is only a single episode where a .50 heavy machine gun is used against Jaffa and that at a distance, they simply could not show arms and legs being blown off left and right.
They still snuck in some pretty neat Easter eggs, like how the Genii Capital has no less than three Swastikas worked into it's architecture.

The first Episode of SG-1 had a pretty graphic full frontal nude scene where Jackson's wife gets held down naked onto a alter and implanted with a Gould. It was cut from every future airing and even most of the vidio releases, it was the only R rated Stargate episode ever made.
After the backlash it was edited down to PG-13 and that guided all future episodes, to the point where most episodes are not even PG-13 but PG.
It kinda messed up the producers vision, they had counted on being able to do R but suddenly were forced into making a child friendly show which they did pretty damn well all things considered. They went from a Showtime R rated show mindset to Saturday morning cartoon PG rating smoothly and with no real trouble.

The Genii were basically pre-nuke USA. If they had 50 years of development, they would have been on level with mid 1990s Earth. Where was Earth in the mid 90s? At best killing Ra through sheer dumb luck aided by Ra's ego. How would they fair against the Wrath in the same tech level?
Look how the Human-Wraith war was going in Atlantis, slow as fuck progress that relied on having the Asgard give them all their ship technology.
Had it not been for the Asgard, Humans would have been completely destroyed by the Goa'uld in 1998. That extra 50 years wouldn't have helped, and it sure wouldn't have helped the Genii against the Wraith.

It was only cut from future airings on different stations. The scene was filmed because Showtime was an adult channel, and it showed that scene every airing that every happened on Showtime.
It was also added back on the DVD collection and the Children of the Gods Directors Cut.

The use of real weapons with blanks on SG-1 instead of fakes with digital muzzle flash was what caused Carter to have this weird cobbled together custom gun for like half of season 7.
The Iraq war made it difficult to find FN 5.7×28mm round blanks for the P90s, most manufacturing was going toward real rounds and were being sold to the military.
So for half of Season 7, whenever they had an episode where a gun needed to be fired. It would either be a handgun or Carters unique gun.

1990's USA with a half dozen off world bases, thousands or tens of thousands of nukes, knowledge of the stargate system and a 1000 year plan in the making to nuke the wraith ships that were hibernating on planetary surfaces. Remember, they could track the location of the ships via the stolen data device.
They wouldn't wipe out the Wraith but they would fuck them up something fierce, combined with 50 years of refinement of the Hoffan Drug and widespread dissemination of it the wraith would not only be crippled but starve to death.
Wraith hives are big enough so that there would be remains to pick over after a tactical nuking when they were hibernating, eventually the Genii would have stolen Darts or even taken over a hive ship and found a way to use them.
Yeah they are paranoid assholes but given their history and the existence of wraith worshipers it is logical, their plan would have worked if the Atlantis mission didn't fuck everything up.

It was also why they went to such lengths to create the remote controlled radio detonated staff effects for the Jaffa staff weapon. They wanted it to look realistic as well so they made a staff prop that had a packet of flash powder at the tip that was radio linked to the target so when you activated it the staff and the target blow up at the exact same moment.
There is a DVD extra that explains how they made it, it is a pretty cool bit of prop work.

About $2800 and the civilian version has a long barrel that you need to spend $200 to get a tax stamp/permit to cut down to the proper length. Even then it is hard to find the rounds and they are plastic tipped hollow points not the armor piercing military rounds.
