You know it's funny that you say that because one of the hardest things for a screenwriter to do is to seize upon a new issue of great importance, and channel it into a clever screenplay.
I haven't read up much on what MI6 does, but it's funny that we never see Bond use disguises or make use of accents. He's never sent to China posing as a contractor for nuclear power, or to France, Russia or Iran. Turkey has a sizeable population of British expats but I can't recall if he's ever been there. It seems like Bond is always tailing fairly large-scale Gangs with some vague control of a major resource.
I'd prefer something more like Day of the Jackal, where it's more about the colourful events involved in the completion of a small task.
