My wife was a member of the nominating committee this year, and they sent the screener out for JOY at the last minute. Literally got here Saturday when the ballots were due on Monday. And they didn't promote it, whereas they promoted the Sarah Silverman film, the Danish Girl, and Beasts of No Nation very hard.
My wife voted to nominate her, but, there's 2250 voters.
Has anyone else actually seen this?
This poster they use for it on Netflix looks like total dogshit, but I really fucking enjoyed it, and it was nothing like what the advertisement made it out to be.
Looks like it should be some Hallmark/LifeTime original, but it's a nice little 'family drama' movie.
I heard it was a pretty hollow entry into the mumblecore canon, going through the motions of its MO and generally being interchangeable from about ten other movies.
This what I've heard and read, not my own thoughts. That said, it looks like something I will not be watching any time soon after getting through the god-awful Uncle Kent.
