Just grab a pair of military standard pants from a surplus store. The material handles moisture well, lets air circulate when it's hot and is heavy enough to keep you warm at night especially if you tuck the bottoms into your socks.

TSA does not give a rat's ass about what files are on your computer -- they sometimes want you to turn it on to show that it is a working computer not a hollowed out dummy full of kaBLAM! It will take some time for tou to gain citizenship, but it is very doable, probably easier since you arent a 3rd worlder. You wont be able to get a great job with an art degree unless you go to grad school and become a professor or something. I have the scarf (black and white check pattern) and the zipoffs. No fleece coat but I have something high-tech and practical from a hiking store for the wet and a bunch of tech shirts that may as well be north face. Only the woolen top is black though.
Mostly I was going for light-weight and quick-drying stuff so that I could wash it in the shower, hang from a bunk and have it ready to wear the next day. Form follows function and they all look like camping/hiking wanna-be stuff because they were made for campers and hikers and I'm not one so I look like a wanna-be. My coat is in a similar basket.
The scarf is different though, I have it because it's extremely practical. Use for smog/dust on motorcycle taxis, soak up sweat in some countries, keep my neck and/or face warm in others. It's useful in almost every climate, wrapped once and loosely, it's light keeps the sun off without making me sweat. Wrapped tightly and folded double or triple, it's thicker and keeps me warm.
The zip-offs are also useful because they serve two functions allowing me to use them in different climates without needing an extra set of shorts. Keeps the pack lighter.

I've got social anxiety, it's only got worse over the years. I have literally one friend. I want to shake myself up to get out of it. I'm currently in the UK, I'm thinking maybe something small, but sufficiently drastic, like packing what I need and just cycling to Scotland to live rough.
I don't care much for comfortable living. I can sleep rough, but I am naturally worried about getting stabbed by crazies. Also concerned that it might end up doing nothing and I'll have just relocated my miserable self to a different place, with nothing to show for it.
I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments/advice on this. It's at a point by now where I need to fix it somehow.

Travel might help, but it requires money, so does relocation. There are probably far better paths to take than just going to scotland to rough it. Consider WWOOFing or volunteering and moving. Where do I find cheap places to buy clothes and electronics in Miami?
I want to visit Paris, so I can say I've been, for 2 days before travelling on to somewhere to have a proper holiday like Rome, Berlin or Athens.
I am interested mainly in history so would like to see the catacombs, Notre Dam Cathedral, the Mona Lisa and, if there is time, Versailles. I'm not terribly fussed about seeing the Eiffel Tower because I've seen the Blackpool Tower and it is more or less the same thing and has more stuff in it like an aquarium and the ballroom.
How possible is it to see the things I want to see in a day? As my wife is a teacher, school holidays are the only option so I would guess the queues will be enormous at the louvre with people lining up to take selfies of them and the Mona Lisa but will they be so long that we have to spend another day in Paris to see what we want to see?

The Louvre deserves a full day, but you can see the highlights in a half a day. Notre Dame doesn't have to take long. The catacombs maybe an hour, and has last admission at 7pm, so that's all doable in a day. You won't fit Versailles in.
It's hard to avoid seeing the Eiffel Tower. You don't need to go up. Word is that the view from the Tour Montparnasse is better (because you don't have to look at the Tour Montparnasse from there).

You can absolutely do it but the Louvre is honestly a 2-3 day thing if you don't want to end up just running through it and getting overloaded by impressions.
The room the Mona Lisa is in is usually overcrowded any given day and the picture is honestly really unimpressive. it's just a little painting and you can't even get close to it.

Original asker of the question here, thanks for the replies. when I was in Rome last I managed to see the Vatican on a tour in an afternoon but it felt rushed so I know where you're coming from about giving the Louvre a bit of time, the Vatican tour did have it's plus points though as we got to spend a good 15 minutes in the Sistine chapel which wasn't that crowded as you can only get in if you're on a tour or something like that. The Mona Lisa room looks a bit sad with nothing else on the wall in the photo and I think that the soul-less setting might ruin the experience more for me than a huge crowd of people or having to queue for hours ever could, it pains me to say it but I might just give that a miss.

Agreed, but with a catch: only if you like art and history. I love both and did exactly what you suggested last time I was in Paris: spent 3 days at the Louvre (5-6 hours each morning, then spent the day doing other stuff). Very worthwhile if you're keen on the sights.
Also, another piece of advice: go early, go off-season (winter), go on a non-weekend. Yeah, there are huge crowds at certain times, but you'll have most of the museum to yourself for a good few hours if you follow the above. I was quite literally the only person in the grand hall where all the David and Delacroix paintings hang, and the Mona Lisa was perfectly approachable if you're actually keen to admire the finer aspects of it (I wasn't).

It is the most convenient, comfy and regular service. It also leaves from the cetre of London so you don't have to add an hour to your journey time to get to Heathrow or Gatwick in the first place and you don't have airport pissing around time to add on either. Expect this to all change in a few months though as the UK government is in the process of selling their 40% to "party donors" that own hedge funds.

I was born in Mexico but have a permanent residency in America and have been living here pretty much all my life. My understanding is that Mexican citizens don't require a visa to travel to most EU countries and I can even work in some with just my passport. How does this work exactly?
I would like to extend my stay there if possible. I have enough money to travel without working for about 3 months but I wouldn't mind splurging everyone once in a while in a nice hotel room if I was able to offset it with a temp job here and there.

In Austria the water quality is some of the best in the world because it comes from the mountains. For cities away from the mountains, you might get chalky chlorine flavored water that's barely suitable for washing.

First find yourself a local pub or whatever fills the same social niche if it is a dry country then ask the bar staff if they know anywhere. If they don't speak English or know anyone in the bar that does (unlikely if you're anywhere but deepest China, North Korea or France) then use hand gestures or talk English loudly and slowly, they'll soon understand what you mean.
If a place is non touresty though it probably won't have a hostel, but the pub is probably an Inn where you can get a bed for the night or a local will let you sleep somewhere on his property for enough cash (at your own risk though).

Best option would be to be a programmer, website designer, a digital artist or anything else you can just take commissions on and do online then only stay places where you can sit down and work on your laptop using their wi-fi. That won't be a problem in Western Europe or the USA and Canada. Make sure you set up the website where you can take your commissions from and start working a few months before you plan to leave to get yourself set up and a steady stream of work. Get people to pay you via paypal and then you can work from almost anywhere.

Depends on the hostel, if it is a 'party hostel' go for a smaller dorm if you want to actually get some sleep sometimes, in a fairly calm relaxed hostel them more people is fine and it'll save you money. In my experience dorm rooms are for sleeping in and the communal rooms are where the chatting and making travel friends happens so it doesn't really matter that much how many people it is to a room in social terms.

wait til you get there. Superrich is the best exchange rate for Thailand and they have a website that is always up to date. Every bank in Thailand will have pretty much the same rate and the airports won't be different than the banks at the malls.

For both Thailand and Malaysia you will get Baht or Ringit. In Cambodia you will get dollars
So, what I do is exchange like $30-50 at the airport on arrival and then more later.

You can always get cargo shorts with zippers or buttons on the side.
A hostel will have lockers, you can sleep with a small bag if you feel the need. A hotel might have a safe, use your judgement.
Honestly after 6 years in Thailand I was only robbed once and it was on a trip in Malaysia. On a van ride at the last stop I foolishly left my bag in the van. I did so because the van driver came in the convenience store with us. Fucker's little 8 year old son rummage through bags and nabbed my go pro and other people's as well. Luckily I had taken out the memory card and have all the videos of my motorcycle ride. Funny enough I felt totally fine leaving my Thai registered bike locked up at the hostel in Penang, that was worth $9000

Yeah, you can get almost anything you need in either place. Bring so of your favorite clothes but you can always pick up more t-shirts, flip flops, shorts etc there. Don't skimp on boxers though, yes you can get them but finding your size or quality for the price might be annoying.
I always pack a decent pair of jeans and a button down or 2 so if I go out at night I don't look like a tourist wh. Hasn't washed in 3 days. Also, people are out to get your money, but it's mostlytaxi drivers. Don't get into heated arguments or physical alterations and all Will be fine.

It all depends on the hotel. If you arrive earlier, your room might not be ready. In that case you can still leave your luggage etc and go out to pass the time.

Depends on how busy the hotel is. They might have a room ready for you when you arrive, or not long after, but they can't *guarantee* that your bed won't still have someone else in it, or that your bathroom will have been cleaned, until the check-in time stated. Show up and ask; they are pretty certain to at least let you drop off your bags. But then you might have to hang out in the lobby or wander around somewhere for a few hours.

There are two parts to your pilgramage to Leeds, each as costly as the other:
1) Airports
2) Getting to Leeds, which depending on airport can cost as much as your flight!

Easiest way to Leeds from abroad should be Manchester airport, where there is a direct train to Leeds city centre. Alternatively, Leeds Bradford airport is closer but less well linked.
I don't know how expensive and what flights are available, but Newcastle and Birmingham airports will take just as long as any of the London airports (more on this later).

Getting to Leeds city centre is easiest by train:
As a general overview, long distance trains in the UK are damn expensive (with the exception of the Manchester airport to Leeds train) and booking in advance tends to be a lot cheaper (50% less? if booked 2 months in advance)
HOWEVER, this means you have to get the precise train that you book. Therefore, you can be fucked over by flight delays and may want to consider getting a flexible 'off-peak' ticket.
The Manchester airport route is easiest and cheapest at £15ish return - 1.25 hours
I don't know about Leeds Bradford but it should be similar in cost via buses.
For Newcastle, this will cost around £30 return and take 2 hours.
For Birmingham, this will cost around £50 and take 2.5 hours.

For any of the London airports, you'll have to travel from airport to Kings Cross, then get a train. This will cost just under £70 including underground, and take over 3 hours overall.

For Leeds, the coach station is really central too. Instead of trains, you can also take the coach (national express, megabus). For London you'll still have to go to centre of London (£12 total). Will probably be half the price as train, but at least 50% the time and with grim people.
Trains use: nationalrail.co.uk : all sites charge the same so don't pay any website that charges booking fees. Only use this if you book trains in advance as 'off-peak' tickets don't get cheaper.

Most hotels will have a storage room to keep your luggage for you. You might want to take your valuables with you however as it's just a storage room all staff can access. At 4pm you can come back and get your room. Sometimes they might have a room available in the morning if they weren't all filled up the night before.
