Spending a couple of days in Takasaki/Maebashi on my next Japan trip. Anybody got any suggestions on cool things to do other than the Daruma temple? Amemura is good for bars, shopping, and restaurants. But if you want something slightly more lively, also head to Doutonbori, which is an adjacent neighborhood. On the right side of Amemura is Europe-village, which may have nice British-style pubs.
There is a bar in Doutonbori called "Glee Club" which is run by a nice couple. They have a standard selection of reasonably-priced sake and whiskey. But the couple doesn't speak English, so don't go if you don't speak Japanese. It's on the top floor of a building, near a restaurant called "Sex Machine" which is named after the James Brown song.
If I want to stay in a shared house for 1 month or so, which city is better: Osaka or Tokyo? I've been to Osaka, but only saw it for one day. I am assuming that prices are somewhat cheaper in Osaka but are there any other reasons to choose one city over the other?

Osaka has a cool aquarium. The Osaka castle is alright. There is good shopping in Amemura and Shinsaibashi, also around Umeda. You can get a neat view of the sunset from Abeno Harukas in Tennoji. My favorite thing of all though is the owl cafe.

Fuck depends. Osaka is in the center of the kansai region with easy trips to nara, Kobe and Kyoto so lots of history and nice areas to explore. Tokyo is a fuckhuge city with kamakura, hakone and Nikko being some culture trips. A lot more imposing than Osaka for sure, but its amazing. You have to see both.

Me and a buddy want to go to the opening night of the Osaka sumo tournament in March but neither of us wants to blow upwards of $100 on box tickets. Are the second story tickets worth the price? They're cheaper (at $45) but are you able to actually see enough from them?

If you're in the back you won't be able to see anything. If you're in the seats near the front they'll be slightly less than 10,000 yen but still close to it. From there you'll be able to see. The emperor when he comes actually sits on the second floor in the front. For me I was completely satisfied with my second floor seats near the front.

What's the best option for spending a month in Japan?
Accommodation-wise? Not necessarily the cheapest option, but i don't want to spend more than 20 euros a day. Is that even possible?

Osaka itself doesn't have that many attractions but still has an active nightlife.
Basically in Osaka you will travel between 30 mins and a couple hours a day, get to a really nice shrine, trail, mountain or part of town and just explore and appreciate the history and culture before heading back to town for some drinks and maybe some nightlife.
In Tokyo after you've seen fuji, hakone, nikko and kamakura you will be left to have fun in the city. Tokyo is massive, and theres lots of interesting places to go but all the nice restaurants and museums do cost money whereas in Osaka you wouldn't have to spend as much on admission. After awhile the dull of the city can get boring.
They are both good choices if you have better mates in Tokyo then by all means, it will just mean most of your time will be in the city compared to being around nature.
As I said before you really have to do both, but Id prefer to spend more time away from the city than in one personally.

Travel will nuke your budget to hell. You can get longer term rooms with sakura house that cost like ~10 euro a day. But that leaves ~10 euro, trains min fare at ~1.5-2.5 euro so you have to plan all your journeys carefully. All longer journeys around tokyo are like ~10+ euros so you'll be restricted. Konbini/gyudon food you could scrape by at ~4-6 euro day. Travelers insurance? Its possible but you wont be able to buy anything and it'll be pretty boring. 40 euro a day and if you can handle living in a share house you will be very comfortable and get to have a much more fulfilling vacation.

The thing is, I have around two months, one of which I wanted to spend in a city to see how the city life is like in Japan and the second month I maybe wanted to do some WWOOFing, especially in the North and South since I haven't visited those. I've already been to both Kamakura and Nara, though I have to say Kamakura seems like a really nice place in summer.
Also do you maybe have experience with recommendations for share houses? (since you mentioned Sakura house).

I've always used the pocket wi-fi routers. It'll probably set you back somewhere in the region of £30/$45 for just under 2 weeks. Just pick it up at the airport/hotel turn it on, chuck it in the bag and then use your phone on the wi-fi like normal.
Getting a SIM card you'll probably need to check your phone will work on a Japanese network as the frequencies theirs run on are fairly different to the US and Europe so not all phones are compatible.

I've never WWOOFed but I stayed at a place that doubled as an organic farm (it was a B&B) while working on a 2-month contract a few years ago in a mountain town in the Rockies. Back breaking? They did a few hours of gardening in the beautiful summer weather each day then spent the rest of their time hiking, cycling, and checking out the area. We had dinner each evening with them, too, and they were all super cool.
People do it for fun. You're not a rent-a-Mexican for a few days. I picked up a pair of hitchhikers a couple of months ago who were doing the same here and they said they'd very much enjoyed.

As far as I understand it doesn't say anything about the tickets being sold out. I think you might be referring to what google translates as "※ tickets (seats), Masuseki, second floor all the tickets are sold." but that part simply states that all those types of tickets are avalaible during the ticket web-pre sale.
I guess you'll just have to keep checking the site for updates.

Other than that I can't really help you more. The best thing would be if you had a contact in Japan to handle the tickets, sometimes you need a japanese address or credit card for this stuff, or you need to be able to pick the tickets up within a certain in a konbini or something. Hard to say in advance since the site is pretty scarse with info.

Not necessarily. I've WWOOFed at three places now, haven't felt at all hard done by. I stick to working at hostels/ryokans and language schools, easy work with plenty of free time, well worth free food and accommodation. Also the only way you get to experience everyday Japanese life.
Just check the reviews and go over ALL the data on the hosts and you should be fine. Just book well in advance to avoid being turned down.

Comfy is a good word to describe Fukuoka. It's a nice, relatively small city with good transport connections so very convenient for travelling around Kyushu and ferrys to Korea. There's not a massive amount of things to do as its not particularly touristy and you won't see as many foreigners as you would further north. If you're there in September I'd recommend the Music City Tenjin festival where a load of free concerts are put on around the Tenjin area over one weekend.

Fukuoka's pretty nice. There are interesting temples and shrines there, plus a lot of shopping. Personally, I like Ohori Park just to relax, but many people go there to jog. The trains at Hakata station will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go on Kyushu, and there are some neat places even relatively nearby to check out.
I am 30 and I have a very mediocre career as a software developer. My Japanese is somewhere between JLPT N4 and N3.
What are my job prospects? I have been applying to English Teacher jobs. Software opportunities are non-existent because:
1. I don't have business-proficiency

I was in Hiroshima about a week ago and stayed two nights and that was more than enough, you can spend a day looking at the museum/peace park/hiroshima castle etc, and then the next day you can make a full day of Miyajima Island. Once you've done those you've seen everything though really.
