In 2 months I am moving from NC to WA and I need to fit everything I own into one of these. I don't have a tonneau/cap and I can't get one. Can anyone give me some tips or ideas or thoughts or whatever on the process? I was going to keep my valuables locked in the cab and only keep the bulky cheapshit stuff in the bed, covered by my mattress and some tied down tarps. is this pretty much okay or am I fucked? I also need to figure out how to keep my bicycle attached.
As far as route is concerned, the last time I drove cross country I cut up through montana/wyoming/dakota etc. Should I do this again or is there a better route to take when driving coast to coast?

does anyone have tips for sleeping out of motels? id like to sleep on my mattress in the bed of my truck, but being open like that is rather alarming

you could always camp, if you have a tent.
Campgrounds usually cost about $15 a night, but can go up to $30 if it's a popular area. (I'd allocate $20 per night, on average, to be on the safe side).
Otherwise you're kinda out of luck. You probably can pull off of a less busy state road / rural area, but i'd just recline and sleep in your driver/passenger seat.
As for your bike, think about getting a bike rack.
One thought; consider getting a dash-camera (or even a decoy/fake one). Might deter people from stealing stuff. Though it certainly doesn't make it much more safe.
dude this is no problem sale everything you got besides bed/frame, hobby shit, electronics, clothes.
than just tuck the tarp in under an strap. get on couch surfer and see if someone will show you their city for the evening or atleast a bed. I understand moving across country is very costly but don't move so far if your a broke bastard.
