I'm in Australia with my WHV. It's not the eldorado,at some place find a work must very very hard (all the east coast).
I'm in Perth now I just found a work in a cattle station(free food/accomodation and 100$ per day) for at least 3mounth (or more if I want to).
My advice is fligth to Western Australia or Northern Territory (Darwin).
After it's depend on your english (where you from anon ?).
Last thing in July every backpackers will be taxe 32%for each dollar. Before if you worked 6mounth you were a resident not anymore so it'll be harder to save money but it's doable.

The idea behind WHV is pretty much rather than bring in immigrants, just get tourists to do all the cheap unskilled labor. That way they spend everything in country and gtfo after.
You can find some shitty farm work that pays an illegally low wage if you're south american, find fruit picking where you get some pocket cash and a roof and meals included, plenty of line cook work if you can hack it, if you're a hot female you can bartend or strip.
Dunno why you'd do that rather than just save up enough to take a months vacation, but I'm not gonna judge. They need cheap labor and you need just enough for food, shelter, and a couple drinks. its a win win.
Just don't expect a fair salary or good working conditions and you'll be alright.

Can someone explain exactly the change in taxes?
My understanding is that currently people on WHV don't get taxed at all if they make under $20,000 and are taxed 19% when under 38,000. The new changes are going to make them pay 32% from the first $1 they earn. Ok, yeah that's going to suck as that's going to take away a huge chunk of their pay. But don't these people get entitled to a tax refund at the end their stay? Or is that a different tax we're talking about here.

Easy as fuck to find work as long as you're not a speed and have some form of experience. I literally had the pick of several high end restaurants in Sydney for barge ding jobs. Work at a bug hotel or casino for big money. I bartended at both The Four Seasons and The Star Casino and easily made 1000 + every week. Free food too.
Leaving now and getting a fatty tax return when I get home. Also saved up enough while here to tour the country and do a bit of Asia as well. Don't regret a damn thing. Trip was pretty cash, and Sydney can be sick as fuck so long as you're not a drunk asshole.

yeah, I think their intentions did also include traveling to Asia too. I think this is why they were planning to do it WHV way instead of just going to Australia for a holiday.

Aust Gov realised most working holiday visa holders dont lodge a tax return so if they raise the base tax rate for WHV the government will often get to keep the money. as long as you do a tax return at the end of each financial year when you're here (June/July) and earn less than the tax threshold you'll probably get a big chunk of refund to take home with you.
