Both of these can be expensive ^^ but that is indeed the point of vegas.

Don't consider it a key part of visiting vegas. But, I wouldn't ignore it like the plague. There can be some fun people watching that is entertainment in itself. So, maybe consider the casino a $20 piece of entertainment and do tokens for that, and enjoy a couple free drinks that pretty much buys back your $20. Then, at least you experienced everything. Of course, only if he wants to do that. Walk up the strip, and enter a couple of places that have interesting lobbies or which he has seen in movies.

I went last fall for the weekend, shows are good (pick any that interest the group) - surprise highlight of the trip was ATV riding out in the desert, there are 2 or 3 small companies that do it.

I enjoyed it because was getting tired of drinking and gambling/being indoors.
