Looking to backpack around NZ this September for and undetermined amount of time and possibly work fruit picking. Anyone have recommendations for must see locations, favorite hostels, or personal experiences to share?

Hiking - southern alps, Hillary trail, tongariro national park. Also feel free to make your own route if there isn't a restriction board.
Fruit picking can be done at any farm desu, either look it up on google or just stop by at a farmhouse or Vinery or anything alike and ask them.
Go on a drive on the east coast of South Island, wild seals, they let you pet them if you aren't a cunt. Be nice and buy them uncooked fish from a store if anything and don't be a Chinese tourist and just run up to them.
If you plan to sleep in the car, which is safe, just have a blanket. Sleep at national park parking lots. Don't sleep near or in cities.
Sunscreen. Do not forget to buy sunscreen, especially if you're white, I can't stress this enough. We basically have no ozone layer.

I am primarily going for the beautiful landscapes but where do you think has the best night life? I am white so I'll remember the sunscreen and was thinking of hostels but the car thing is good to know when traveling

honestly i thought new zealand was kinda crap, just go to the south island and see the million billion fucking disney land europeans in their "adventure" gear. i had fun living on lake pukaki and in dunedin, stay away from areas with sandflies and the caitlins were cool. marlborough sounds is awesome. stay the fuck away from the guided tours and that bullshit, hike a tent wherever you go and hitchhike.

Auckland is the only city you'd enjoy clubs and all, Wellington maybe for bars and a bit more quiet time. Pretty small country haha, especially if you're coming from the Americas or European countries.
In Auckland though here are a couple suggestions for night life, you could hit up central city and just walk around for clubs and shit, Mission Bay, the harbour bridge, K' Road (notoriously fun street in city, probably the most adulterous street in Auckland, kiwifags correct me if I'm wrong here), and of course, Sky Tower for the view and casinos and shit.
Lastly, for a drive, go through the Forgotten World Highway at night time, be real careful while driving though, some parts are rough. It is by far the best route I've been on in North Island at night. Pic related. The sky is usually clear, and the stars are bright as fuuuuck.

Having lived in Wellington all my life, It definitely isn't for a quiet few, especially on a Saturday.
Our bars and clubs are all centralized on two streets really (Courtenay Place and Cuba St) and can be easily walked in the space of 20 mins if you don't find one of the countless clubs/bars/strip clubs inviting.
To be honest, I don't recommend going out on Saturday unless you love being packed like sardines in the club/bar and having long as fuck wait times to get in (We don't have cover charges in NZ except for strip clubs usually btw).
If you do end up in Welly, I reckon you go out on a Friday arvo to Matterhorn for a few nice drinks if your budget allows, otherwise El Horno for their sweet Sangria, then hit up Eddisons for some dancing. Chur.

Cannabis is obviously easy to get, and I thought the price was reasonable.
Acid seems to be floating around hostels and such quite frequently, I got some for free actually.
Coke and pills seem to be common in party places such as Dunedin and Wellington.
Auckland is a fucking shithole, so don't expect anything nice to happen there-
