I've been highly considering moving to Oregon or Washington
Sure they get shtick for being a hub for the liberal hipster types, but I just love how beautiful and chill and carefree everyone is over there. I would absolutely love to live in some hick small town surrounded by forrest and wildlife. Not to mention I'd love meet a cute or punky, semi hipster girl. Can any Northwest bros share their experience living there?
If you plan on moving to Portland/Seattle please fuck off were beyond full, we don't need more califags moving here. With that being said there are plenty of smaller communities in the surrounding area. The Olympic peninsula is beautiful and cheap, same with eastern oregon. For the love of god, don't move to Portland/Seattle.

You might be looking for an idyllic picture of living up north, but it's like anywhere else with ups and downs. Beautiful summers offset by overwhelming cloudy months. Amazing food, especially fish, yet the shittiest tacos this side of the border. Friendly interesting people and flaky, insecure, neurotic weirdos. Going for amazing hikes and waiting all night for a sale at REI.
Small PNW towns are boring and full of meth. Some are nice though. Personally, I like Olympia and Bellingham. Not that small, but not big either.

For all the "stay out of Oregon" comments I see not much has changed. I grew up in Portland in the late 80s/early 90s. Even back then there were people protesting with "Californians go home" signs. Left in mid 90s, haven't been back.

I live in Bellingham. I've previously lived in Seattle, Portland, Forest Grove, and Corvallis, and have traveled extensively on the from Coos Bay to BC. Bellingham is nice and small, but has its metropolitan aspects. If you're thinking about moving up to the PNW I'd recommend moving to one of the college towns, like Bend, Ashland, Corvallis, Eugene, Bellingham, Olympia, Ellensburg, Pullman, or something like that. Rent is cheap, work is easy to find if you're not a student, and the bar scene is better.

Vancouverfag(bc) here. Bellingham seems like a really nice city with a lot going for it. Last time I spent time there I found myself exploring the city extensively and seeing that it seemed very liveable full of attractive people. Sure, there's going to be some rednecks, but bellingham seemed a bit more liberal and prosperous then other communities i visited in washington. But then again, I visited when the dollar was at par. Not sure what the conditions are like these days.

Honestly here in Bellingham we hate Canadians more than Californians. Fucking Canadians come down here and don't know how to fucking drive or tip. I've never seen hate like what food service workers from Bellingham have for Canadians.

I live in Seattle, can confirm 1bd/1ba is around $1400 for anything that isn't 400sqft. Fucking CA's ruin life for the rest of us. No but really I think Bham is a pretty good option, it's only 1-1.5 hours from Seattle and honestly you will want to chill in Seattle. I have lived in Seattle most of my life and although I could see bham as a pretty chill place to live, I am too accustomed to the city vibes. Get a place just outside of Seattle like down in Renton or Northgate or even a little further north and you will be happy with prices/space and still be close enough for city vibes. I personally wouldn't want to live more than an hourish outside of Seattle because everything is hickish/redneck. If you live closer to the city you can still road trip to the hike spots and/or ferry/drive to the islands.
