I like Facebook, it has some good features. The chat, wall, and stuff seems pretty great. Compared to a lot of other shit that is unfortunately growing in popularity (SnapChat KIK etc.). That said, my family doesn't use it and my best friends text or even call me so I don't use FB much. The only reason I even created a profile was so that I could use Tinder, and so that I could add the "in a relationship" status with my gf so she know's I'm serious. Other than that I've only ever used it to get coupons to Five Guys etc., I think I actually have 5 other friends, most are guys but there is also one girl who I met online, added as a friend, and then she freaked out and got too scared to meet because like you I guess she thought that was too creepy. I never bothered to unfriend her because I visited so rarely that I eventually forgot the password.
Admittedly this is a problem for me. In addition to being quite introverted I have no interest in social media sites, apps and stuff. I'll be graduating soon so eventually I suppose I'll have to create a page on that professional network (forgot the name) in this day and age I think that sort of avoidance is considered strange.
When I first met my GF she had started having panic attacks before despite us talking for weeks, despite my calling so she can hear my voice, despite giving her my last name so she could do a background check, despite adding her on FB, despite webcam chatting on Skype, she just kept adding one fucking test after another. I realized her paranoia would probably never end so eventually I just said "Why don't you bring your friends and then you can decide with their supervision if there is 'chemistry' " (as if she couldn't figure this out after weeks of chatting). She did, they were both guys one turned out to be an ex of hers whom she was on good terms with; a little weird, whatever it took for her to get over her fears. On our second date she brought a female friend.
