I have lived in a country on the opposite side of the planet for years and am ingrained in the society in every conceivable way.
But in the end its just humans going about their lives with only superficial differences.
You're not special, you just want to feel special because you have nothing else to latch on to. There is nothing rewarding or epiphany-inducing, nor does it legitimize that you've been in some human-defined subsection of land we have decided to call "nations" any more than if you just had a layover in the airport.
In fact putting these foreign cultures on a pedestal and treating them with such reverse is nearly racist and alienating as you are identifying all the things that differentiate us rather than what is similar, and you revel in those differences that you no doubt find bizarre otherwise you wouldn't be so ecstatic about experiencing them.
If this kind of thing is your crowning achievement in life, you live a pretty miserable existence.

Went to Bangkok to start the backpackers trail.
Had booked a series of hostels. Opted to stay at the JW Marriott insted.
TFW, never left Bangkok. Stayed at the Marriott the whole trip, ironically. Ate McDonald's every meal. Except for that one time I ate Carls Jr on Sukhumvit Rd.
