Going here in a week or so. Any suggestions? Night life especially.

Everybody is always raving about Budapest nightlife (pun intended).

Don't get scammed during the day by brown people from ye olde east.

VII. district is where its at, if you are into that thing, partying with fellow foreigners, drunk Britbong slags and so on
look for so-called ruin pubs, that's a local thing tourists seem to be fond of
Castle, Parlament building, the Grand Marketplace and public baths are nice
architecture too, if you are into Jugendstíl/art nouveau
check out maybe a free walking tour, there are thematic ones as well
>>

go hiking the budaside & check out the Budapest history museum in the old castle neighborhood.
The church up there is really nice as well.

Check out Instant Club for nightlife. Filled with foreigners and just unlike anything else
>>
Hospital in the Rock has evening hours. Great for a museum combined with a dinner closeby, combined with a walk in the Castle district (safe) like Fisherman's Bastion views.

Actual Hungarian here.

Theres lot of common items everyone does (Castle, Parliament, St Stephan church, Matthias church, Heroes Square, chain bridge, ruin pubs, baths, Gellért hill), you can find these after a quick search so im not gonna bother going in detail.

If you are done with that I suggest just walking along the Danube promenade, and get lost in the streets of the inner city. On my crude map thats places inside the yellow line.

On the other side of the river, a similar getting-lost-in-city is within the blue parts, and particularly the old town on the castle hill. Buda is richer and hillier and offers a different experience from Pest side.

Theres some nature spots worth checking too. I mentionned Gellért already but most tourists just get to the top for the panorama, its nice to explore the hillside full of huge mansions and embassies.

Margit island is another popular place, its mainly a place for sports but its nuce to just take a walk in.
You should definately check out Normafa and the elisabeth Look out in the far west part, its the hiking place of the city.

For events check this site - its intended for both Hungarians and foreigners:
http://welovebudapest.com/

Its also full of brim with city tour, hiking and entertinament guides and tips.

For the night you want to go to VII. district, although imho its becoming little too much a tourist trap and many Hungarians avoid it (for Hungarian-visited pubs your best bet is to check out places along the Grand Boulevarde southern half)
Still you should check out ruin pubs at least once, and they are going to be cheap for your wallet probably.

For clubs heres soem places you cant go wrong with:
A38
Corvin
Gozsdu
Toldi
LÄRM
Akvárium
BRKLYN
Dürer
Dürlin
Fogasház
raqpart
Vittula
MÜSZI
Budapest Park

places to AVOID
Peaches n Cream
Doboz
Instant <<< this this absolutely dont, you will likely hear about it, its a free entry place and the music is sometiems okay, but the place is so shit, chaotic, its always totally full

Try to ask someone you happen to befriend and trust.

Otherwise escort sites - absolutely ignore whores on the street.

Go to the top of the Citadella at night.

Explore the beautiful Buda Hills, and walk through Margaret Island (especially great at this time of year).

For night life, Szimpla and Fogásház are both great ruin pubs.

Normafa is truly beautiful. After being here for a few months, I finally went there today, took the cog railway (60), etc. So cool!
