So are you in the Marines or the Navy? Just curious. A better question would probably be what are you in to? Where are you from? Can better give suggestions that mirror your interests

In the Marines, from California, I like hiking, going to the beach and sight seeing, wouldn't mind jazz clubs or live concerts

Marine here as well. Well you can get some hiking, but be forewarned, it won't be the hills you are used to in California. There are some good trails on base, and plenty through the Croatian National Forest, including the 20 mile Neusiok Trail. I will post more when I transition from a mobile device.
Not very far south of Jacksonville is St. Augustine, the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the mainland US (founded 1565). They have an old Spanish Fort open to the public that's pretty cool. The Spanish built that city to challenge a French settlement in present-day Jacksonville called Fort Caroline, which has a replica built that you can see also.
They also have the original Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum with all kinds of weird stuff.

Jacksonville, NC dude. The OP is talking about Jacksonville, NC. Not Florida, that said you have Ft. Macon not far from Jacksonville, NC. A civil war error fort, that stayed in service through the World Wars. http://www.ncparks.gov/fort-macon-state-park
Awesome thanks!

You actually have one of the best beaches in the area right on Lejeune http://www.mccslejeune-newriver.com/beach/
look up "Jazz Rendezvous - Jacksonville North Carolina" on FB for Jazz
A lot of nature type stuff to do in the area, ut on the weekends, especially if you're single, you may want to venture out to Wilmington, Raleigh, even as far as Myrtle Beach, Hampton Roads, and the DC Area.
AMA on the area, Lejeune, whatever. I am from that area and have about 15 years experience in the Marines.
