Thanks to the Highland Clearances centuries ago, and English-style tombstone architecture in modern times, there are very few 'quaint and picturesque' towns or villages in Scotland. The economy in mid-sized towns is usually horrendous, and it shows.

During World War II, both Germany and Russia decided to virtually split the country up and occupy it. During the Nazi's offensive they destroyed Polish cities and ruined their architecture. I would have loved to see Warsaw prior to the invasion and the destruction that came with it.

The mountains, mainly. but also the atmosphere -- by which I mean the literal atmosphere, the air, the clouds, the light. I swear to fuck the sun's light refracts differently through Scottish air compared to everywhere else on earth.
