What country/region would you argue has the best indigenous music? Post examples!
I'm a big fan of 'desert blues' from west Africa; best stuff seems to come out of Mali and Mauritania.

I like me some desert blues too every now and then. Tend to stick to Terakaft and Toumania Diabaté though.

Other than that, Mongolian (or in this case, Kalmyk) throat singing also tickles my fancy, as does Persian classical music:

The Balkans have some amazing music—I was recently in Albania and there's such an amazing level of musicianship and a cool vibe, sometimes even gets jazzy.
Tuvan/Mongolian throat singing is A++ as well

There's actually a vid of me booty jiggling at one of their gigs somewhere. Luckily, it hasn't surfaced so far.

Check out this channel, OP. It has some gems. I really like the Syrian Sufi music, but I'm pretty into most middle eastern music. I'm also pretty into Indian Esraj music and Chinese Erhu music.

One of the more famous songs, it's on the Golden Record playing on Voyager.

I love this one because of how fast and jumpy it is with the ridiculous premise of a person wanting to be taught how to plant peppers.

Here's some contemporary Balkan music that carriers a very post-Soviet feel that's cross-country relatable for us.

Chechen and Georgian folk music is like nothing I have ever heard, its incredibly powerful.

Indiana Jones-tier. Makes me feel like I'm sitting in the desert watching these dudes work themselves into a trance. Islamic music does great things with a capella.

That got intense. I used to work in a soulless office in downtown Wellington. Every day, 8 floors below me, this old Chinese grandpa would set himself up with one of those instuments and busk all morning, invoking the mystic spirit of Yunnan and shit. Seriously saved my sanity listening to him while I crunched numbers all day. When my office ordered us free Subway I'd always bring him one.

Something I learned to do 10-15 or so years ago after watching a travel program about Mongolia where it was highlighted.

Anyway, I nominate west African, specifically Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana as having some truly flippin' kick-ass music. Runs the gamut from chill as fuck to bursting with rhythm out of all holes. (More true of the 50-90s, as modern trends have caught up to the over-produced auto-tuning of the rest of the world).

Chief Stephen:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiZozFgBoVw

Oliver de Coque, who is one of my favourites, although there's not a lot of his best on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7WhTAGG9SM

Also King Sunny Adé, a legend:

SE Rogie:

ET Mensah:

This is Congolese though:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqWPqkvfgVg

some classic Orchestre Baobab (Senegalese)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlR9SyUbq3s

Here's some Sudanese music, with Abdel Aziz el-Mubarak. Awesome.

Now Ethiopian is just God-tier, IMO. Some pretty dank and heavy shit out, goodness gracious.

Tezeta is a song in any Ethio crooner's repetoire, there's no fixed words or melody though, it's just a theme to make one as nostalgic as possible.

Master the shoulder dance, or at least know about it, and you can unlock just about any Ethio pussy.

Even the piano arrangements by 95 year old Orthodox Nuns is outta this world. I really love Emahoy:
