Let's share some fun travel shows. I've watched all of the episodes for this particular one. These two guys go on a hitch hiking/couch surfing trip to SE Asia on a $1000 budget each. Any similar youtube/other video site links would be appreciated!

Everything Michael Palin has ever done. Not many great clips on YouTube though.

Thinking about documenting my adventures in videos. What would you guys like to see?

The worst thing these documentaries do is describe exactly what we're looking at. If you have some nice shots, let us interpret them, don't just say "That's a nice sunset" and other banal nonsense. Don't be afraid of silence.

By all means tell us what you've done, why you liked it, whether you'd recommend it (and who to) and talk about any encounters with locals. Despite what I just said, try not to make it a travel guide. Don't shy away from the negatives because your job/responsibility isn't to convince us to go, but tell us what to expect if we did.

This guy has 3 good series. He has a trans Siberian railway series, a series where he buses from los angelas to panama city, and a series where he canoes all the way down the Mississippi river.

Departures is the best like proper documentary about traveling which isn't heavily scripted or planned, its like a cross between a vlog and documentary.

There's lots of other stuff, but it doesn't give a real perspective on traveling, everything is way to managed and produced in most 'travel documentaries'.

I like Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown. Though he can get a little special snowflake and real traveler which some of his asides and viewpoints (i.e repeatedly lamenting US troops being on Okinawa on that episode, and kept trying to get the locals on the show to denigrate them, but everyone under 50 had nothing but good things to say --- or when he was in Myanmar and lamenting the future increase of tourism and the changes it would bring)

>isn't heavily scripted or planned
That's not fully correct. While what they say is not scripted and there genuinely are some random moments, most of the places they go to are heavily researched and they are often accompanied by guides or "local friends" they just happen to have reconnected with or stumbled upon.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great show, but it's not just 2 guys and a cameraman running around the world. There's a whole team behind them that did a lot of work to make the show what it is.

I found this on /pol/ so that's not exactly your "wow cultures are awesome I'm tolerant" traveler, but it's fun and things really happen to him.

What whole team are you talking about? And what makes you think that there's a crew behind it

Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown, which I mentioned here: >>1077314

had gone to Colombia, Libya, Congo, Peru, India, Russia, Brazil, Shangai, Paraguay, Tanzania, South Africa, Jamaica, Korea, Madagascar, Beirut, Cuba, Okinawa, Ethiopia, Iran, and Istanbul. I've omitted the European, USA,and SEA destinations, but would like note it takes an interesting look at Myanmar, which don't see many travel shows go. And even the "popular" destinations he goes it tends to be off of the beaten path and from a local perspective. Hence the name "Parts Unknown "
