What is objectively the most dangerous country to travel in? At first I thought North Korea, but at least it has a central government that can be negotiated with. It's probably all of Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Nah I was just in parts of Afghanistan that weren't extremely terrible. But the terrible parts would be up there. I'd say anywhere in ISIS territory, most militant groups are prepared to hold you for extended periods while bargaining, but those dudes seem to be all about the video production.

I'd think the most dangerous place would objectively be Syria. In Aleppo different groups are in control of territory that's just feet apart. Cross 2 blocks over from Assad's territory and you find yourself in FSA or ISIS territory. And other parts are controlled by dozens of proxy groups and Kurds. The only safe part is the Kurdish region and that's still dangerous.

I feel bad for justifying this stupid thread with a response, but as a random asshole who has visited a few war and recent-war zones for work, I concur that anywhere in a current war zone must be near the top of the list. Parts of almost any warring place will always be safe enough. I've sincerely enjoyed Afghanistan. Also been to Liberia and Sierra Leone, where caution is obvious if you are not stupid.
But if the perceived violence of a place is somehow a motivator in your dumbass vacation plans, I know from my own experience that there are plenty of places where tourists never go, that are not necessarily 'get yourself killed' kind of places.

Statistically speaking, ISIS territory for westerners, the FATA in Pakistan comes a close second, but you can travel through it safely with a military escort if you manage to get permission to go there.
Though, obviously if your a Muslim or Pakistani you will have no problems in these places, so its subjective.
