Sure Gong is alright. Depends what you're there for.
The blowhole at Kiama is worth the trip down if you're in the area. There's also glow worms in the old train tunnel at Helensburgh via Royal National Park, and you also get to enjoy the scenic drive in.
Wollongong City Beach or North Wollongong Beach/Lagoon is ok, but I would rather travel North to Bar Beach at Newie.
Aaaand there's Jamberoo for people who can control the action (family waterpark).
All in all, Wollongong is worth one day's trip if you have a car. Otherwise, skippable.

Well if you are travelling, North Sydney would give you better access to jobs in town, they have a train, ferry, and bus services, and more connecting motorways to get you anywhere in Sydney.
The Shire is about 20-30kms South of Sydney, and is... It's culturally very different to the rest of the city. It's very Anglo and has the feel of its own satellite city, where people are born in the area and never move out.
Shire has some really nice beaches and a slower vibe to it. I have friends from overseas that had working holiday visas and had homestays in the Shire and really enjoyed the "Australian" lifestyle.
North Sydney has access to beaches too (Manly up to Palm Beach). There is Ku-ring-gai National Park to go up against Royal National near the Shire. Tourtisty-wise, they are pretty dead even, but North Sydney being so close to the CBD would edge it out for me. Plus McMahon's Point's views of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and all the trendy restaurants.

Really depends on what sort of work you can do and how likely you are to find that work. I had a canadian friend who was here six months and couldnt find work outside of a hostel. Eventually he got frustrated and left.
Worse even, he arrived in Autumn and was idle during Winter which can be a bit rough.
Do your research and look at Seek.com or Gumtree.com for jobs. from Sydney, there's a lot of Australia that's within reach tourist wise for a working holiday maker.

Farm work is easy to find, but you won't be anywhere near Sydney. Expect to be in North Queensland or regional NSW or VIC at a vineyard or farm.
One friend is currently in Mildura but is lucky to meet some good friends there from her country.
Brisbane or Melbourne would be better destinations job wise. Alternatively. You could land here with a student visa and get your travels done while studying.

Just travelled through OZ for 7 months. Started in Perth and hugged the coast southbound all the way to Cairns with a month long stop in Tassie
IMO Melbourne is better than Sydney.
Sydney reminds me of Los Angeles where everyone is just trying way to hard to be "cool" or "hip"
Where as in Melbourne they just were.... Had weeklong free music festivals (St.Kilda) and lots more to do...
Sydney was high priced shops, restaurants and a general nose stuck up attitude and I didn't find that ANYWHERE else in OZ after all the thousands of miles I covered.

Yeah to some extent I would agree with you. But you probably visited only 10% OF Sydney. Melbourne is much smaller, nowhere near the size of Sydney.
Blue Mountains, Northern Beaches, Royal National Park/Bundeena, Inner City, North Shore... How much time did you actually spend in these places?
Everything you would want to do in Melbourne is within 10km of the city.

It's not a huge difference but like I said the jobs you'll get will be MUCH better. I lived in a house with a french guy that was working retail and we all made fun of him for having a lame job. I'm in oz right now and would kill for a boring retail job. Best money I've made in oz was on a cattle station but I had to do all the really dangerous jobs and got treated like shit. The south around melbourne is a lot better for foreigners imo. Working in tasmania right now doing hospitality but would go back to nz in a heart beat if I could get another visa. Sydney is pretty cunty but Melbourne is absolutely crawling with hipster douche bags.

It depends what you're coming down for. Beaches are good and there are some decent cafes and things to see but outside that, there isn't a whole lot. If you have a car then it's easier to go check oout some cool nearby stuff e.g Kiama, Thirroul, Berry

Sydney has the more diverse landscape and more multicultural districts within the city, plus all the landmarks. For international tourists, sydney is the go.

Finding a job is a total breeze as long as you are not completely incompetent.
I've gotten jobs all over the citys sickest cocktail bars with less than 2 years experience behind the bar by doing rockstar interviews and writing great cover letters. Seek is your friend, thats where the best jobs are posted. If you are looking in hospo join the Sydney Bartender Exchange on Facebook.
If not hospo then Retail or sails is your only recourse. Dont expect a career offer on a working holiday visa.
Other than that finding a job was a sinch. Check out The Star Casino or any of the Hotels for great Rates (with all my casual penalties I average about 28 per hr).
Just dont be openly drunk anywhere. The alcohol laws here are straight up draconian. If a door man sees you laughing and having a good time in line he wont let you in. no doubles after midnight, no shots after midnight, no whiskys after midnight. But the city itself is legendary. Enjoy

This is a bad idea. It's too far for such a short break. You'll be seriously jetlagged for two days of that time and will spend about three days traveling there and back. Go to the Caribbean or Central America for spring break. Go to Australia when you have at least three weeks (ideally more). And don't travel that far and only go to Sydney.
