Even if you protect your assets, you still have the problem that you just 'wasted' four years with someone building a life that now isn't going to exist. You can't get those years back, why not spend them with someone that is going to stay with you forever? Or that at least in theory, wants to stay with you forever.
Both of my aunts ended up marrying out to military men. One of them is in love, has a family, and it's functional.
The other one didn't make it and is with some other rich dude now. but I guess it's just like dating - you gamble. Except she has more than one lose if it's mail order and that's why it gets tricky.

Start at least a few months before you plan to go, so you have time to get at least 10 or so girls lined up to meet.
