I have nothing right now; no money, no skills, no education and the third shot job I've been sick of this year. In a week I'll get paid a few hundred bucks. Should I hit the road again or stay in one spot and try to plan for my future? Look for a steady decent paycheck/benefits or say fuck it and walk south for the winter? USA btw
>>
>>1062390
Walk south until you hit Guatemala or El Salvador. Then stay there.
>>
What are you going to do when your hundred bucks runs out (which will happen very fast)?

If you think you can just wander around the globe doing odd jobs making ends meet... sorry it doesn't work like that.

To travel you either need savings or you can go the ESL route (that usually still requires a 1 year contract).
>>
>>1062407
I have been doing pretty much exactly that for the past few years but only in the US if you don't mind roughing it and traveling primarily by foot and hitching it's really not that difficult. How would I go about doing an esl program? Better to get certed on my own time and then look for jobs or to do an actual program? Where do you recommend for the latter?
>>
>no money
>no skills

Better kill yourself instead of going hipster poaching.
>>
>>1062413
I mean no skills is pretty harsh I can cook pretty much anything I'm smart enough to pick up any basic skills fairly quickly and I'm still young and in good shape. I've talked to military recruiters and might take that route but I just dunno. Wanted to see if anyone here had completely abandoned any true semblance of a regular life in order to just wander and what regrets they had.
>>
>>1062402
Why there? I've heard good things about Nicaragua and I have some family in Colombia but I would want to actually save money before going down there.
>>
great, atleast I'm not the only one doing irregular things like travelling around pennyless. I've heard people walking the appalachian trail over there, about sharing, camraderie, good talks over camp fires and so on. but it's not everybosy who has it all for walking 1000's of miles fitted with a backpack and poor/mal nutrition.
personally my last 5 years have been pretty much without money, and am now in a similar situation as yourself. I tried the army out but, but when it got to choose it as a career I opted out on it so I didn't have to kill people on my job assignment, on the other hand I wasn't paid a buck since I opted out in may '12. I'm considering to look for a community with anarchistic or spiritual foundation. the last 2-3 years I've been volunteering in the twelvetribes, a religious serving free-will community. but got suspended for watching porn at night. so tell me what you're planning, seems we've got a few things in common. btw I'm from europe
>>
>>1062418
Awesome. Bummer on the porn thing. I feel like there's a fair amount of anarchist movements/groups over here but that sentiment is probably just a reflection Of the company I tend to keep. I'm on the east coast right now not far from the AT and it's likely I'll walk it south in the next few months. Where are you currently located?
>>
>>1062423
in Denmark northern europe.
went to marocco hitchhiking from denmark to the sahara recently, but it's tough there with no money because everyone's poor. got back last week. considering to go spain in mid jan, got a ride from denmark all the way there. hitchhiking isn't too good with 6-7 hours of light hours with frost at night.

are you planning to travel through in winter time or are your rather far south as not to worry about cold?
>>
>>1062427
I'm in Maryland at the moment and it's unseasonally warm but it won't get below zero anyways. I guess I would like to buy a ticket somewhere or go to central/South America soon but if I went I would want to stay for a while. Do you have any experience with making money in foreign countries?
>>
>>1062416
>not even researching Central and South America before you shitpost
These are the countries where you are most likely to get murdered for absolutely no reason.

You are a waste of life. If you want to see if traveling does you well then try it you fuckwit. Maybe it will, maybe it won't but fuck you. Choosing an ill-conceived and arbitrary foreign destination that does nothing to address you self described shortcomings deserves all the mockery we will soon deliver. Seeking approval for any proposed life plans on an anonymous internet imageboard means that your plans fail at step 0.
>>
>>1062434
staying a while, means you'll need a form of host or other. my suggestion is that you might do woofing, you work 5-6 hours a day in a relaxed atmosphere and you get housing and your basic needs met with mostly delicious and well prepared organic meal which is really a pay-off for when you're feeling low. everything you stuff in your mouth you know will do you good makes you better.

don't arrive in a 3rd world contry and expect to be looked after, they're poorer than you and won't care if you should end up dead. that's what I realized in Marocco, even being a renowned place for hospitality.

but if you can manage getting in contact with organic farms you might have a platform to see south/middle america, you can also travel from farm to farm or stay longer periods.
>>
>>1062460
Not seeking approval seeking advice faggot. I've been all around the states and now I'm asking if my lifestyle is doable in other places to people who might know. Thanks for the advice

I'm this guy, and just to reply to >>1062541
the question of doing shit like that other places is different realm of hardships. I read about some guys who had gone all over with no money, but they had eachother which I think gets them through. they're called forwardtherevolution or something like that. reading parts of their story might cast a shade of what it's like. they've also been around middle and south america, well even africa with no money at all. so it's possible.
>>
>>1062407
>If you think you can just wander around the globe doing odd jobs making ends meet... sorry it doesn't work like that.

I disagree completely. I've literally done that for the past 4 years. And I've done more than make ends meet.

It's also a fact of life and very common in the US.

People don't realize that there will always be work if you're willing to move for it. There are literally more job opportunities when you start looking outside your own country. I personally limit myself to working in first world countries because I don't like worrying about money.
>>
You can always learn skills/go get an education
Maybe get something to fall back on so that you have a way out of your lifestyle if your sick or something
>>
>>1062596
Wondering what it is you do... what are good skills to learn that are applicable everywhere? My thought is education, healthcare, and I guess more technical skills like plumbing?
>>1062539
>>1062550
Just looked at the forwardtherevolution website looks like they have some solid stuff there. As far as wwoofing Ive been looking at farms in the southeast US and wouldn't mind getting some experience here before taking that and going elsewhere with it. Do you think that sort of thing could translate into a permanent gig on a farm?
>>
>>1062460
Not true.

Honduras is the murderest.
>>
>>1062676
Marketing, bartending, and (lately) trimming marijuana. But I would scrub toilets in Australia, Norway, or a bunch of other toilets if I had to because it'd pay well enough to fund my lifestyle and I don't really care for the prestige in my job anymore.

But I've been offered work in lots of other industries where I didn't have experience, either. People gravitate towards happy people and I tend to be happiest when I'm travelling. People will offer you jobs if you get along well and it means you get to hang out more
>>
>>1062686
> A bunch of other toilets

Lmao... Definitely not a Freudian slip. I meant to say "a bunch of other countries"
>>
>>1062676
honestly I think that woofing is intentionally just short work force for free, seeing that the farmers might just get the extra work force because it's free. not to completely outwrite the possibility of a future job, but my wits says that's not really what the woofing hosts are looking for.
>>
>>1062711
Yeah I figured although im sure if you really hit it off with someone it might lead to something else maybe not, though but room and board works for me.
>>1062686
Ok so do you base destinations on where you have job opportunities or is it the opposite? where all have you been and worked? I know theres trim jobs in nor cal area but Im not a huge fan of that area or of weed really so I never wanted to stick around long enough to find one.
>>
>>1062776
I travel wherever the fuck I want but roughly plan where I want to end up when I run out of money so I can save up to leave again.

I've only worked in Canada, US, and Australia. I was offered work in Norway and Sweden but I wasn't low enough on money to take the jobs. I also got offered work in Thailand and Philippines but my shit got stolen in Thailand and I lost the contact and didn't like Philippines enough to take a pay cut.

As for NorCal, I don't like weed either but I get to see some of my favourite west coast people and it was worth it this year because the USD is so strong.

What I really like about my lifestyle is that anywhere I have worked gives me work whenever I'm in the area (ie when I visited oz again this year I worked at the same club so I could break even/not touch my travel fund for the year while I saw some friends)

The countries I've visited since I started are:
Australia, Cambodia, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Laos, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United States

It's really not much considering I've been gone for 4 years. But I used to try and spend at least a month in each country. I've also been trying to keep in touch with a lot of the good friends that I've made so I've ended up back in the same countries a bunch of times.

---------

Today I was talking to my cousin and she was telling me about her friends travel nursing. Does anyone know much about it? She makes it sound super flexible and it seems like there's an abundance of options in the US. One friend of hers landed a one week contract that was 8k. Some of her other friends aim to get contracts thhat are a couple of months-6 months which is sort of what I'm looking for.

I've personally been trying to get into the oil industry but everyone who promised to line it up has never followed through.

Save up until you can afford to go on a working holiday visa in New Zealand or Australia. Get paid $14/hr to pick apples, ya cunt. Proceed to travel the world with your Aussiebux. Easy.
>>
>>1062817
Are you only trying to get into the oil industry for the money? In what country? I'm going to college next autumn and the only way I see getting into the oil business is to either know people or be a petrol engineer. Anyone know if it is any good btw? (besides the money)
>>
>>1062817
Might seem personal but how much do you make in jobs like that? Usually it's difficult to save when earning a low income in countries like Canada, Australia or the US because costs of living are high.

How do you deal with visas?
>>
>>1062969
Pretty much just the money. I don't care where, to be honest...I'd prefer offshore. I just find the x weeks on/ x weeks off very appealing because it's what I do anyway and I might as well make a lot of money while I do it. I don't have any commitments/anything tying me down so I'm actually perfect for it. I'm honestly just tired of zeroing my bank accounts after every long trip. It'd be nice to be able to save some on the side while I travel and oil seems to be the only way to do that. I also want to put money away for school.

You're right - I'm not a petrol engineer but I would be a derrickhand or any other shit job on a rig. Everyone who does it seems to be pretty miserable unless you have a cushy job.

>>1062976
Hypothetically, right? ;) I've made good money in all 3 countries that you mentioned. Australia was 18k in 5 months (it'd be more but I was going out a lot/living like a normal person), US was 14k in 2 months, Canada is usually 3-5k a month.

Australia is the only country out of those 3 where you can make a killing on minimum wage. The other 2 you really have to try (but bartending in either country will be way above minimum wage). The thing is that I'd rather be making decent money in an expensive country than no money in a cheap country - at least the choice to live frugally/save will be mine. Anyway, my point is that if you want it bad enough, you'll find a way. If you can speak English, you can make more than minimum wage in any of those countries. Hell, you could even get by in Norway, Sweden, or Denmark with just English. I just really hate it when people make the excuse that they can't save in a first world country because it's so expensive (I especially hate it when people say that about oz. It costs almost the same to live in Toronto but their minimum wage is twice as low as Oz

I usually work on a tourist visa - the Canadian passport's pretty wicked. But I also can get a working holiday visa to almost any decent country in the world.
>>
>>1063073
I'm thinking of going to Australia for a working holiday visa as well next year. I make a decent living here in Canada but I'm bored of life here. I'll attempt to get into a masters program and if I don't get in I will go to Australia instead.
