ITT: we convince people to travel to metro areas that most would be reluctant to visit.

Detroit

Family-friendly places:
Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village: largest indoor-outdoor museum complex in the USA (emphasis on US industrial history in late 1800s-early 1900s). From there, you can also get tours of the nearby Ford Motor Company River Rouge Plant, where you can see cars being made on an assembly line.
Detroit Institute of Arts: one of the top six art collections in the USA.
Ford Piquette Avenue Plant: oldest former car factory building open to the public (built 1904). It's where the Ford Model T was born and several examples of it are on display.
Detroit Zoo: first zoo in the USA to use barless exhibits extensively. It also has the largest polar bear exhibit in North America.

Adult-friendly places:
Three words: casinos, casinos, casinos. Detroit is one of the biggest metro areas in the country with large Vegas-style casino-hotel resorts. They are listed below:
Caesars Windsor (Roman Empire theme): located directly across the Detroit River from Downtown Detroit in Windsor, Canada.
MGM Grand (art deco theme): located in the northwest corner of Downtown Detroit.
MotorCity (future retro theme): located just northwest across the Interstate from the MGM Grand.
Greektown (modern theme): located in the Greektown Historic District in the east side of Downtown Detroit.

Events:
North American International Auto Show (in January): one of the largest auto shows in North America.
Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix (in late May or early June): IndyCar Series race (similar to Formula 1).

Detroit is nicknamed the Motor City. You need a car to get everywhere, just like most places in the USA. There are millions of places where you can easily rent cars, including at Detroit International Airport.

They do have an elevated people mover in downtown, though, and they will be opening a light rail route up the length of Woodward Avenue, the city's main street, in a few years.

Coincidentally, Dearborn right next to Detroit is the unofficial Muslim capital of America.

This. I almost went to Syria back in 2007.

Practically at the Jordanian/Syiran border, but changed plans out at the last minute. My travel partner/friend had flown over to the Middle East for us to meet up and travel together, but he had an Israeli stamp from a couple years earlier, the faggot! "Oh what, I can't go because of this one stamp? I didn't know...". Sheesh. So we stuck to Egypt, Jordan... and then question was if I go on alone and meet up in Turkey, or both of us fly directly to Turkey. I wasn't afraid, I quite wanted to go, and had met several other travellers who all said it was great. In the end, I wanted to be a good bro and stick with my friend since he flew halfway round the world to hang out with me, even though he said he didn't mind either way what I did. I just figured I could easily come back (was living in UAE at the time). Well, it never happened and now... fuck.

Malaga, Spain gets a lot of shit for being the epicentre of that special whirlwind of arrogantly aloof British/German retirees, golf resort/hotel overdevelopment, and package tourists from the rest of Europe... and it's true areas around the city along the coast can be quite depressing and terrible. But I actually had a surprisingly pleasant time in Malaga city itself. Not a bad place to spend a couple days (though probably not more). I mean, it's unpretentious, cheap, fairly good food options, and I found people fairly friendly, the little beach is right there, there's a few old Moorish or medieval castles and plazas to poke around. Quite a decent place to explore, IMHO.

Does Detroit have any interesting neighborhoods worth visiting? I always hear of Detroit as a desolate ghost town filled with crime, but I'm sure there must be safe active districts within the city.

Are there any fine dining restaurants worth a visit? Where are most of them?

I'm sure in 20-30 years when things are stable there we'll be able to go and see the damage this war caused and reminisce about how America tried to fuck the whole world over.

Grosse Point is where the money is, that's where all the car company bigwigs lived back in the day. You literally cross the border from Detroit and the grass turns green.

The restaurant in the Westin Book Cadillac in downtown Detroit is pretty good too.

Downtown is still pretty dead though... barely any retail or restaurants other than around the casinos. Some good bars and amazing places like the Fox Theatre and sports venues.

Where can I find warehouse techno shows in Detroit? How would I find out about them(without social media)?

My dream is to experience one warehouse rave.
