Has anyone here ever visited Montsegur in France? If so, what would you say would the be the "easiest" way to get there? As there seem to be no bus stations or anything nearby.
>>1124522
I've been there it's not far from home, but I don't really know what's the fastest to get there considering I just hiked
I guess you don't have a car since it's the easiest way to get there, isn't there transportation to the village next to it ?
>>1124537
I am coming from Finland. Now the cheapest way seems to be taking a flight to Paris, take a train/bus from Paris to nearest whatever town and hike to Montsegur.
How do you protect yourself against mosquitoes in tropical regions?
In particular I am going to South-East Asia in a week and will stay for a month. It's my first time in the tropics.
What I came up with so far:
- NOBITE spray for clothing
- NOBITE spray for skin
- longsleeve cotton shirts (the heat will probably kill me)
- longsleeve polyester shirts (like sports clothing)
- carrying a mosquito net since some hostels might be unprotected
- I can't get myself to wear long-sleeve pants rather than shorts, would this be a very stupid decision?

Sweat is stinky. Bugs love the byproduct of the bacteria produced in sweat. In fact food odor is so similar to stinky cheese, bugs will land on cheese in studies.

They love people who excrete uric acid (drinkers).
But they've known for a while CO2 attracts too (avoid exertive exercise at dawn/dusk peak biting times).

Thanks for all the info, what would you recommend when comparing long-sleeve versus short-sleeve for shirts and pants?
>>1123978
Not him, but long-sleeve for sure. After a day or so, you'll get used to it and not sweat as much as you did before.
Which people are genuinely nice? For me, so far it was the Taiwanese. The people whom I visited are in academia, like I was, and it was never necessary to talk about nothing in order to not feel uncomfortable.
The mum type ladies treated me as if I were their son (as I was told later).
I'm Romanian but live in the UK, and I'd say neither Brits nor Romanians are that nice. Neither are Italians, come to think of it.
People from the southeastern US
There are genuinely nice people in every country. You're a fool for generalizing entire countries with many millions of people.

hey /trv/, My wife and I haven't done much travelling, but we are going to do London/Amsterdam/Barcelona this summer. Any suggestions/tips? It will be on the shorter side (2 weeks inside of trans-atlantic flights) with only a few days in each city and we want to make the most of it.
aw, fuck man
a few days in london is like... going to an art exhibit and looking at one piece of art at random. Do you know what part of London you want to be in? Don't go south of the river, it's not very good down there. Try and seek out some stuff to do that's specifically interesting to you. Museums are good, if that's your thing. You can spend all three days at the British Museum if you want. You can go shopping, which is actually pretty cool if you find some groovy shops like Forbidden Planet.
Are you taking trains from london to amsterdam to...

No we are flying between all cities: 4 full days in London flight to Amsterdam the next day; fly to barcelona 3 days later; flight back to london 5 days after; and finally two nights in London before hoping back across the Atlantic. So we will have about six days in London.
So any tips on barcelona and the beaches/ramblas?
Well, I got my visa! I'm going on vacation next week.
I'll actually be in South Korea for most of the vacation, but I'm going to be in North Korea for the first two days. Has anyone here ever been there? What should I know about it?
>>1123681
>What should I know about it?
You're crazy.
I was actually planning to visit North Korea as well but the current situation has gone from bad to much worse. I'm sure I'll hear about your hard labour sentence in the news soon.
You should go to SK first so you can enjoy some gorean "barbecue" before your future diet of grass and prison rats.
>>1123681
I'd advise against that. Foreign tourists are arrested and imprisoned there consistently and without notice. It's not worth it.

Does anyone have advice on what to do in Frankfurt in August? Going with a friend for a few days and then to Brussels.
>>1123247

Eat a frankfurter

Too expensive.
Always wanted to go to NYC.
I will be 21 in June and i will leave a week later 4jul-11jul, so its finnaly becomming true.
Planned to go 9 days (7 days actually then)
But last minute switched to 8 days (so actually 6 to explore the city) because prices went up
Cheapest option was the KLM package deal for 2300, the day before that it was 2450.
Booked it
Week later, i see the price is 2050. Thats a fucking 250 euro difference.
Is there something i can do about it? I heard all sales are final.
For the same money i could have gone the 9 days i was...

Tickets loose are 1180 (KLM)
Hotel (Hotel Yotel NYC) was around 1300
So togheter they were cheaper on KLM package deals

Took me about 2 minutes to find a 650€ round trip flight from Amsterdam to NYC and a 7 night entire apartment Airbnb in Manhattan for 450€.
Hey /trv/
In two weeks im going to Dessel for graspop.
I am staying in Belgium after that, going to Brugges then Brussels for a while.
What are some must see/do in these cities, or other cities nearby? Also any tips welcome
Thank you
Both Brugges and Brussels are pretty boring and shit. I dont get why they attract so many tourists.
Go to Ghent instead.
>>1123241
What's there to do at Ghent
>>1123328
Bruges and Bxl are just the normal tourist path.
Genth is of the usual path & pretty vibrant city. It's ok.
I'm a big fan of Mechelen for culture/during the day. And Leuven is by far the best place to go out (avoid june-august & december-january)
What airports are the worst in terms of theft by employees? Casablanca, Johannesburg, Manila..
I've only once had something stolen from my luggage (a swiss army knife) and that was in Johannesburg.
>>1122839
Only time I've had something stolen (a printer in a checked suitcase) was on a long Asian itinerary. Could have been in Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, or Khon Kaen. I don't generally have appliances in my luggage anymore.
>>1122839
Johannesburg can be pretty bad if you dont pay attention to your belongings. There is visible security walking about, but it doesn't necessarily deter some opportunists.
Also be aware that there have been recent reports about a crime syndicate on flights to Asian countries where they ransack your overhead stored luggage when you're either asleep or gone to the bathroom.
Hey trv, staying in Nice, France for the next two weeks. How do I go about getting laid here? So far I'm just on tinder. Any good clubs I should check out?
Check out Grindr
>>1122030
I'm straight but man I wish there was a heterosexual equivalent to grindr. Too bad girls just go on tinder for validation
>>1122029
I have 5 days for traveling between Flagstaff and Austin around 15-20 June. What can you recommend me visiting en route in Arizona New Mexico and Texas? I'm open to anything.
If you have time to head up to Santa Fe, the art center Meow Wolf is pretty wild. That or something outdoorsy in Albuquerque like riding the tram up to the Sandia Mtns crest
Thanks! Good advice
Further I'd like to know what is the best city or town in Texas for a genuine Texan experience. Does someone know something about that?
>>1121588
I grew up in texas til I was 17. I've driven around here and there as soon as I could. It really depends on your definition of "genuine Texan experience" if you take the i10 route, which I imagine you will, near the end of your trip you'd have the option of going through San Antonio, which is where the Alamo is at. A lot of Hispanic culture with some areas still having the old times western look. But if you really want true western look you'd have to go further south to Laredo. Although it's...

I've got a few nights in LA in July.
I'll be with my missus and a friend of hers. We're from Australia and have never been to the USA.
Has anyone got some great recommendations for some trendy bars and such? Roof top bars, great beach bars etc etc.
Preferably on the cheaper side, but if there's some unmissable spots that are expensive, I'm all ears.
Also general LA things to do. We'll be staying in the West Hollywood area. Is public transport reliable etc? How expensive are taxis and shit?
>>1111548
>LA
>taxis
>public transit
These are not commonly associated with LA for a reason. I live here, and I'm the only person I know that uses the subway every day -- but I do it with a bike. Without a bike, it'd be a restrictively far distance to walk from WeHo to the Red Line (Hollywood/Highland), and you probably don't want to rent bikes for 3 people every day. Buses are 95% reliable when you use Google...

This cannot be real lol, Australian kucks traveling thousands of miles just to do MORE drinking. The only thing you're missing is a fist fight.
This is why the French are passing you in likeability, at this rate you guys are going to fall in last place fast.
sounds like you don't really know LA.
Let me fill you in.
It will be a letdown. LA is not the sunny shiny city of beautiful beaches and pristine long lined avenues of palm trees. It is a flat grey smoggy sprawl of about 20 cities that bleed into each other to create an expanse of shit. Hollywood is a sad sad place filled with asian tourists and pathetic individuals who fell in love with the romanticized idea of California and came for stardom and never left. trendy and hip pockets of town exist in various places but give way to unorganized old strip malls...

Hello /trv/lers,
I'm completely new to traveling. I live in northern Germany in a smaller village and I'm 19 years old, and lately I feel like actually doing more than just drinking with the same faggots every weekend and I want to experience things.
My plan for now is just to drive away for weekends, to nice areas in Germany, for as long as my money allows. But I don't want to pay money for hostels, so I was wondering if anyone here had any experiences with sleeping in your car and could give me advice.
Don't have a van, but its a long...

I did it only once but I wasn't travelling.
The first thing that come in mind is the problem with the cold (eventually bring with you a blanket).
Anyway what are your concerns about sleeping in your blue car?
Good luck!
>>1123819
there's not much advice needed for sleeping in a car
just remember to lock your doors
also like the other guy said, bring a blanket
i slept once in my car, it was a bit tight and cramped, but it was ok
>>1124019
Well my concerns are how safe it is to sleep in my car and I also read somewhere to always keep a window slightly open to get some air in, I'm just a paranoid fucker who always thinks he'll get killed
What are the Great Lakes like? How does it compare to beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts during the summer?
>>1123706
>What are the Great Lakes like?
As the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth, they're pretty much what you'd expect -- large.
>How does it compare
How do they compare. You need to go with the plural of the verb here as there's more than one lake. The "s" in "Lakes" should have tipped you off.
>How does it compare to beaches
Beaches are generally composed of sand. The Great...
